ICAN is an all-volunteer support group for women dealing with all aspects of cesareans - prevention, planning, recovery and VBAC. You don't have to have had a cesarean in order to attend in fact we love first time moms or future moms! ICAN meetings are always on the second Saturday of every month from Sept. through May at 10:30 a.m. Meetings are free and children and partners are welcome. Our location is:
St. Anthony of Padua Church
(look for ICAN signs posted shortly before the event that direct you to our space)
4414 Frankford Ave
Baltimore 21206
Oct. "VBAC 101" All you need to know as you set off on your journey to pursue your VBAC. Types of caregivers, lining up the baby well for the birth, birth location choices, uterine rupture risks, labor management issues- you name it its in there! I'll also be selling my stash of maternity clothes for anyone who is interested (not an ICAN fundraiser).
Nov. "Meet the Doulas" A repeat of last year's popular meeting. DC and Baltimore area doulas will be invited to come and share info about what doulas do and provide ICANers with the chance to meet a whole bunch of potential doulas at one time. Last year we had several doula matches made at the meeting. This meeting also provides an opportunity for area doulas to network with each other since Baltimore doesn't have a doula networking group. Our Baltimore area doula directory created as a result from last year's meeting will be offered for sale.
Dec. "Coping With a Repeat Cesarean" Folks who have had unwanted repeat cesareans can help us by sharing how they coped.
Jan. "Exploring Homebirth" We will be having our annual "Exploring Homebirth" meeting in January this year instead of during May like we normally have done. Two area midwives will attend to answer your questions about having a homebirth in Maryland. As usual we hope to show homebirth videos pending no technical difficulties (let us know if you can help with that!)
