with your mortg. Im just wondering what can really happen besides late fees if you are late by a few days (past the grace period).
sigh, the paychecks are getting stretched farther and farther.... im contemplating paying the mortgage (again on the 17th)

I've had to pay my mortgage a bit over two weeks late and suck up the fee, and it DOES NOT go onto your credit report unless it has been 30 days after the due date.

There is no where for credit reports to say "14 days late" "17 days late". It's in 30-60-90 day increments.

I have excellent credit and am often late on paying bills- they never go over 30 days but I rarely get them paid on time either. Due to the recent security breach at Countrywide I have requested out credit reports and all the bills are shown as paid ontime. The only real downfall is having to pay the fee if you go over a certain number of days.

As long as it is within a a time period so that it does not show up on your credit, it's probably okay, but keep in mind that on your credit report, your mortgage is weighted SO heavily. that is the one thing we were told when we got our house...don't EVER be late on teh mortgage because it counts for like 90% of your credit score...be late on 3 credit cards if you have to...the guys literally said to us "don't eat if you have to, but pay your mortgage on time".

Less than 30 days on a mortgage has little repercussions. That said, don't be too late or you run the risk of not having 2 payments at once (the one you are paying late plus the current one!) Then you get into a cycle of always being 1 month behind and then if you are later than that new norm once, boom you are in past 30 day land and getting notices in the mail and calls.

And being late on a mortgage is an expensive late fee to swallow. I think I noted on my bill that the late fee is like $70! Wowza, that is a lot of money...I would pay on time if at all possible. Still, if you have to let it go to the day after, do it...just don't make it a habit.
