Getting Rid Of A Cough?

Girls, I am completely miserable I came down with a cold last Wednesday. It started in my nose. It was soooo stuffed. Now it has given me a cough and I really just can't deal with it. I have been coughing so badly that my stomach muscles hurt every time I move.

Does anyone have any good remedies for a cough that I could try? I NEED to get rid of this and fast before I go completely nuts.

Thanks.

Sorry you're not feeling well. Try some hot tea with lots of honey. It should soothe you and calm the cough down. I hope you feel better soon.

I'm right there with you. I have had it for almost three weeks now. Mine turned into bronchitis and I had to take antibiotics. I still have the cough/stuffiness, but my chest no longer burns everytime I breathe or cough.

A neti pot was suggested to me to help clear the stuffiness, but I just don't think I could pour that up my nose. If you have a humidifier, it would help to run it at night.

I hope you get some relief soon!

The cough I had was so bad I resorted to over the counter medicine for it (I tore a muscle in my rib cage from coughing so hard) so I have no "natural" remedies to offer. Just wanted to send some your way. Being sick while pregnant sucks, I hope you get better asap. Sorry you're feeling so lousy!

Birthdancedoula talked about drinking Garlic Lemonade - doesn't sound like the tastiest thing, but it does sound good for you.

I found a recipe

Thanks girls. I am sorry that I am not alone in this. I really don't wish being sick while pregnant on anyone. It is just so horrible. It is getting slightly better day by day. I am trying to wish it away LOL. It seems to be working hehe.

I am having an easier time breathing through my nose but this cough is just excruciating. Now when I cough it gives me contractions....yippee. Some of them have been quite painful which is making me nervous. I don't want to go into labor with this cold. I think I am gonna end up coughing this baby out hahahaha.

Oddly enough, every time I get sick or start to get sick I will eat a can or 2 of the frozen orange juice and I will get better VERY shortly afterwards. I guess it's the sudden increase in vit c or something, but it works every time for me. It's a little tart and sort of overpowering, but it does help if you want to try it. *shrugs*

Hope you get to feeling better hon! ((hugs))

my version of this happened a few weeks ago! im so sorry..
im sure you are already doing this, but sometimes it helps to be reminded.

- i rubbed a huge amount of vicks into my chest and throat to ease the intensity of the cough.

- honey is a natural cough supressant - you can take a whole tablespoon straight!

- neti pot does help with congestion

- run a humidifier! put vicks or eucalyptus in the water. Take a hot bath and shower twice per day to break things up.

- make sure your nutrition is booming - vitamins, emergen-c, and most importantly: WATER!!! Flush it out...

Take care of yourself - get rest to heal on a cellular level, and don't do too much!

Feel better...
