Anyone heard of Wish Garden's herbal cord care powder? A mom of six gave me a jar, said it works SO much better than alcohol.

Crashing from Jan.... YES! That stuff is amazing! My daughters cord fell off at 4.5 days. You coat it about once or twice a day. She would still weep/bleed from her belly button on occasion a few days after so I just dabbed a bit more there.

How much did you use? The container I have is almost new, she did use it about 2 moths ago for her dd, it seems to be about half-full.

You should have enough, it doesn't come full anyway. Mine was only used 2 months ago as well the container is 1/2 full and I have PLENTY left for when I give birth in a couple months.

I'd sprinkle it on the cord then rub it in.

I have some for this one. I was using straight goldenseal capsules on DS I apply it with a q-tip.

I've never heard of this stuff. I need to check it out.

Thanks so much for sharing! I wasn't going to order any but figured I'd keep an eye out for it at the health food store (I hate paying shipping for small inexensive items!) But then I just went to order my birth kit, and I happened to notice something from Wishgarden on the front page...I searched for the cord care powder and they had it, so I just added it to my order! Schweet!

I've heard that using alcohol can delay the stump falling off, because it prevents drying and kind of preserves the tissue. I did it anyway last time because I was afraid not to, but I like this option much better.

they use this at the birth center. It's really great stuff!

If you don't have the money to buy any, the cheapest stuff you can use that *really* works well is breastmilk! Keeps it clean and helps it heal quickly!

I am pretty sure we didn't do anything to my son's cord and it fell off in well less than a week and he has a nice little belly button :-)

We used alcohol with dd and it took 16 days to fall off!
I'm going to ask my midwife about this alternative, but I like the breastmilk idea, too. Definitely no shipping charges there!

leave it alone!!! keep it dry! my DDs fell off in 3 or 4 days.
I plan on leaving it alone this time. We used alcohol on DDs and it took almost 6 weeks to fall off. Ick.

We did nothing to DD's and it fell off in less than one week! Plan on leaving this on alone as well.

Is the Wishgarden cord care goldenseal powder based?

We used goldenseal powder on DD's and it was fantastic. It's also really great for those toddler owies...we call it "fairy dust"

yes, it's a goldenseal and oregon grape root powder. (if my memory serves me right on the second bit...)

I love the Wishgarden stuff! I recommend it to every mama. I used it before, and I'll be using it again this time.
