Should I buy this?

I saw it in a catalog and fell in love with it for the new baby's room. It'll be about $150 if I get all the pieces (except the big baskets on the floor). The room is small with a big closet so it seems silly to buy a nice dresser and stick it in the closet.

I've got the money in my baby budget, but my frugal side says $150 for some canvas bags??

MY frugal side says no - it might be cool while baby is little, but once his/her clothes get bigger, I don't think it will continue to be useful. A dresser will cost less (much less if you look at tag sales or thrift shops) and will be much more useful long term.

Do you have any bed bath and beyond coupons? They have similar things, and with the coupons there would be a substantial discount. (their technical limit per transaction, when I worked there up to 2006, was five (one per item), but we'd let ppl use as many as they want.)

And this. This first, mine second.

Mama you can do a set up like this yourself just looking at items at target or walmart for way cheaper than that. Maybe $50-75

Congrats on the new little one.

You could also find this type of thing at IKEA, for way less money. It's cute though. I have one hanging organizer and I honestly don't use it. Seemed like a good idea, but they are pretty awkward to use IME

You'd do better with a regular "closet organizer" that's designed for adult clothes and needs so it will grow with your child, rather than something specifically designed for infants.

Or get some cheap plastic storage bins for clothes, and use the regular closet rod for those items that can be hung.

Look at all this goodness! You could do way better, financially. Have fun nesting!

I got one of the hanging bar extensions (at the Container Store) which lets you have a second bar in your closet - and should work for a number of kid years. You could then add some canvas shelves to hang off the other side of the closet (assuming yours is a double sized closet) at IKEA or Bed and Bath - and do the whole thing for about $50. And it would last much longer. The top rack of that one will only work for a little while if it fits onesies. I will say I have Elfa drawers in my kids' closets - they fit under the hanging clothes - and love it. Their rooms aren't huge so they don't have bureaus - leaving room for train table, etc.
Happy nesting!

Thanks! Something was telling me this was overpriced for it's true usefulness. The baby clothes hanging in there just makes it so cute!

That is going to be so much fun for the baby once she is walking. Not so much fun for you picking every last item of clothing off the floor every time you turn around.

:

However I was at IKEA last night and they had these same items made from a nylon-y material. They seemed quite nice, and were about 1/2 the price.
