My dh and I are considering visiting my in-laws "one last time" before our ds is due. This is our second healthy pregnancy and I delivered last time at 40 weeks on the nose. We used to live close to my in-laws and are familiar with the hospital we would have to go to at worst (couple of friends have delivered there, baby-friendly, nicer rooms than the hospital we are going to here-seems natural child-birth friendly). At best, I would get to see family one more time, appease my husband who is really homesick right now, and get out of town one last time b4 ds gets here... Any advice or thoughts on whether this is just pregnancy hormone wishes or should I go for the travel??

What kind of travel/distance are you talking about? My personal inclination would be to stick to home at that point, but then again my water broke prematurely at 35w5d with my first, so I'm extra paranoid about being far from home.

we'd only be traveling about 120 miles. my IL's could come up and visit, but I think dh needs a break from my family (we moved here two years ago b/c my mom is retired and watches dd while we're working/in school). I did suggest that if he wanted to go visit, he could and I would call if there was any action, but he isn't in favor of us being separated...

Probably at such a short distance, it would be ok. I wouldn't want to....but if you think you'll do ok, you probably will. Just take it easy, get rest when you need to--and don't stay long! Unless you're perfectly ok with having your baby while there anyway

We're traveling 5 hours at 38 weeks to spend Thanksgiving with our family, but I'm planning a home birth and don't mind having the baby at my in-laws house if she comes early.

36.5 weeks and 6 hours from home
I'm visiting in-laws, too. Its our second. I figure we can labor in the car on our way home if necessary. We could even drop in the nearest hospital if something seems wrong. Chances are good that baby will not come while we're gone. I'm not sick, just pregnant. I cannot be quarrantined

I gave birth at 37w6d but 120 miles isn't far and if your labors are generally on the longer side, it should be fine. A few days before I went into labor I spent 2 days (just daytime hours) about 60 miles from home helping a family member hunt for an apartment. She was worried but I figured that since it was my first baby, I'd have plenty of time for us to drive back to my house
