If so, we probably wouldn't qualify b/c I was working, but I lost my job in June and haven't been able to find anything since so at this point maybe we would.
IME, they work with you to find eligibility. If your income is spotty, that might qualify you. If you or the babe have low iron, you will qualify. You might have to "requalify" every month. But, they generally will try to find a way for you to qualify. Most of the employees are not there to "get you". They are there to help you.

Thanks. I will at least look into it - the worst they can say is that we don't qualify, but I won't know unless I inquire. I just didn't know if they look at one month, or average out several months, or last year's income or what since we can't say that we meet the requirements outright. I am pregnant now and have an almost two year old so that may help eligibility.

My Dh's income is also variable, but usually I just bring in a paystub usually one of the lower ones(when the income is required) and it they look at it and that's that. Then when we have our 3 month check pick up they ask if things are the same, I say yes and done.

I have never even been asked about vaccination, just if my DD has been to the Dr, and if she's been to the dentist.

Wow thanks for all the responses. We looked at it before we had DD1 and knew that we qualified, but didn't mess with it, because we try to eat mostly organic and there is only one company in my state that is hormone free milk. But I'm expecting my job to go away at anytime now. The check this month came late and I'm guessing that is because they would have bounced had they sent them earlier. Thanks for the info!

this really dont have much to do with your post but my local wic gave us a crib when ds was born, the 4-in-1 crib. anyways i thought that was really neat. all i had to do was be enrolled in a PAT which i already was. they sent out a ton of them from a grant they recieved.

What is PAT?

www.parentsasteachers.org

Its a state program run by your local school district, free to all participants. Most programs have 6-12 visits per year by a 'parent educator'. They come by your house and bring a developmentally appropriate activity, game and book to read with your child. Some states do screenings (eyes, ears, etc). Ages birth through 3 and then twice a year until kindergarten. It differs by state. Its a great program, we have really enjoyed it. :

I wanted to chime in here and say that I have definitely seen Lactaid milk without the hormones, and WIC does cover Lactaid milk (here, anyway).

Anybody know if you can get WIC without getting any milk? We have our own milk cow, and we don't qualify for food stamps, and WIC would be an option, but we don't need any milk. I don't think I could even give it away.

A lot of city/county WICs also distribute free car seats!

Yes, when you go to buy the stuff, just don't buy any milk. Some states make you buy everything though, and in that case, you can give it away. I actually asked a worker once what to do with stuff we don't need and she told me to give it to someone who may need it. (We had too much juice b/c we didn't drink that much).

I also heard a rumor that some WICs are changing to include fresh fruits and veggies and bread and some other things and going to an EBT card system instead of checks.

In NY you can have them put more cheese on your checks and less milk.. I guess you could probably get NO milk and lots of cheese!
