Maddox is here!

Hello all,

I'm not a huge poster but I read everything! And I would like to announce the arrival of Maddox.

Here is a short form of the events written by my husband. I'm still working on his actual birth story and will post it once I'm finished.

We are pleased to announce the birth of our first son Maddox Raymond Cash who was born at home at 6:59am on September 17, 2008. He weighed in at 6lbs12oz. and measured 20 inches.

While we had planned a midwife-assisted hospital birth it turned out a little different in the end. Ericka’s water broke at 4:15pm on the 16th and she entered early labour at 5pm. We called our primary midwife and her apprentice to our home at 11:30pmand upon examination Ericka was told she was 3-4cm dilated and had a little ways to go. Things really started to progress after her second examination at 2am and by her third we were told she quickly progressed to 9cm dilated and if we wanted to have a hospital birth we were going to have to hit the road. Since Ericka was in great pain by that point and I hadn’t slept in about a day, we decided to give birth at home. A quick call was made to our secondary midwife to come over and our primary went to the car to grab her birthing equipment (midwives carryall the necessary equipment along with oxygen and resuscitation equipment should it be required).

By 6am orso, Ericka felt ready to start pushing and in a Herculean effort the little one made his way out and onto the breast by 6:59am. Ericka managed to pull all this off naturally without so much as a Tylenol (well, truth be told, she took one early but it came right back up). The woman is my hero! I had the great privilege of cutting the cord and “unleashing” him into the world.
While we appreciate everyone’s calls and well wishes, we will be laying low to recuperate for the next few days as neither of us has slept much in the past 36 hours. We had better get used to that I guess

Love,

Don and Ericka

Wow, you had your baby only a few hours before I had mine! I'm guessing you're eastern time. Mine was born 6:42am pacific time on the 17th. How cool is that?!
