I was really wanting to do at home daycare, so that I could work and be with my kids too. It looks like childcare is CHEAP here in tennessee Most people in my area pay $100 a week TOPS for fulltime daycare!!! Most only pay around $85!!!!! I thought daycare would be a way that I could supplement our income, but now I am not so sure..........................

so, If you do daycare in your home, how much do YOU charge?!?

If I were doing it, I would be charging $125... but it is really dependent on the area. If others in your $85-100, then you have to plan on charging industry standards.

I charge $150/week for infants, $125/week for toddlers and preschoolers. My clients seem pretty happy with my rates--I think they're reasonable for quality care, both where I live now (mid-sized Indiana town) and where I'm moving next year (Houston). There is certainly cheaper care available but it's not quality care (think kids roaming the neighborhood while care provider sits on porch and smokes). And there is certainly more expensive care available too. Some of the upscale childcare centers in town charge $800-$1000 a month! Yep that's $200-250 a week!

But you are kind of forced to go with the standard rates in your area if you want any clients. Look into what amenities/advantages the more expensive places provide, and see if you can compete with that sort of market.
