Using donor breast milk

Hi,

I am completely new to online forums so I hope this is the right way to ask a question and that I haven't committed some major faux pas!

I am a prospective adoptive parent currently waiting to be matched with an expectant mother. I am aware of the protocols to induce lactation and plan to talk to my MD about that tomorrow -- still undecided about this. But my question is about using donor milk. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this and what sort of process they used to set this up. I don't have access to a milk bank where I live but am aware of a few women who are currently breastfeeding and would possibly donate milk. I don't know these women personally, someone I know knows them.

Any advice would be great! Thanks.

I've donated milk to two families after the birth of my surrogate son. You can PM me if you have any questions.

But there are many mama's on MDC that have accepted donor milk. You may ask over on the BF forum.

Have you heard of MilkShare? It's a Yahoo Group that helps you find donors. See this: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/MilkShare/

I donated through milkshare.com as well with milk from my bio baby.

I am currently nursing my adoptive baby, I f I need donor milk, I have a couple people from the mom/baby group at the local birth center who have offered me milk. I shared the milkshare donor info with them. Feel free to pm me if you have questions and I don't make it back to this thread.

Good luck and great job,

Have you been to asklenore.com?

Others have given you some good leads. We just can't do milk donating on the forums.

I was unable to breastfeed my baby boy due to breast cancer and supplemented his formula feeding with donated breast milk (from friends). We had no problems and I suggest going this route if it's a possibility. Only thing that may come up is allergies and you just deal with it as it comes...

Good luck to you mama.

I really wish I had been more proactive about donor milk when I adopted my daughter. The social worker was completely squicked out by the idea and I didn't want her upset. I'm not saying don't tell a SW you'd like to use donor milk because you might have a cool SW who can help. Maybe just start the conversation in the hypothetical realm.

Thank you so much for all your advice! I checked online for some ideas about protocols re: accepting donor milk and plan to pursue this.
