I have the books:

Cycle Savvy by Toni Weschler
Are you There God? It's me, Margaret by Judy Blume
The Care and Keeping of You-American Girl

and a book from conception to birth of a baby, nice pictures.

I use The Care and Keeping of You-American Girl for health class. My girls are just turned 9 and almost 11. We have discussed most of the book, but not "how the egg and sperm meet". Yes, call me a prude. I feel horrible I let it go this long. :

I need a book so I can discuss sex ed aka where do babies come from or how babies are made, SDTs, birth control, etc. Any suggestions?

A clueless mom

I like It's Perfectly Normal, which is quite comprehensive. The only issue I had with it was something that my niece pointed out to me-- there are illustrations of a woman laboring and giving birth, and at the end of it she's holding the baby... but there's no mention of nursing! "Why doesn't she give that baby a nursie?" she asked. Good question. I don't know, though-- that may be changed for more recent editions.

There's a book my son came home with one day and I have no idea the title. The best I can tell you is that it is in the science section because that's where he's always at. Anyways, the book has a skeleton on the front and people working to put the various parts on him like muscles, jaw, etc.

The book is a very good book in explaining what the different blood cells do, different muscles do, etc. Then, at the very back, it explains sex and periods in a very clinical way. There's two sorta "robot boxes" that are illustrated and shown what is happening. I think that's a very good way and showed it to both my kids as well as explained it to them.

Don't worry about not being ready to tell them. That's strictly a personal thing. You aren't wrong for choosing your own time. I do think it's important to make sure they're aware. I wasn't and am very open with my own kids because of this.

We have It's So Amazing!: A Book about Eggs, Sperm, Birth, Babies, and Families for dd (8). It was age appropriate (ages 7 and up), non-judgmental and covers sex and conception, STD's, some birth control. The presentation isn't embarrassing.
Birth control is discussed on one page and isn't very detailed. Condoms, the pill and abstinence are mentioned.

The next book- It's Perfectly Normal- is for older kids/teens and looks like it has have more about birth control. http://www.amazon.com/Its-Perfectly-..._bxgy_b_text_b
