What's your dental routine ???

I'm just trying to learn about which is the best toothpaste, mouthwash/rinse, and floss for me.

I have receding gums, they usually bleed when flossing, and I'm prone to cavities. My dentist said that I don't have good enamel, and he said that has more to do with something that happened during my fetal development, as opposed to something I'm doing wrong.

However, I will say, that dental health is usually pretty low on my list, but I really want to make some changes and get it all taken care of.

So, what's your routine?

If you've had any of my problems...What has worked for you?

Thanks a LOT !

I use the clean white teeth method. It seems like a lot of work but I got into a routine with it pretty quickly. But it uses flouride, so if you don't like fluoride, it's not for you.

Here's a site with some info about it. http://cleanwhiteteeth.com/

My teeth were in pretty good shape when I started so I can't attest to it fixing any problems like bleeding gums, etc. My dentist is impressed with my beautiful teeth however! It might be something you'd want to try.

ETA: If you decide to do this, the cheapest place I've found to buy Closys is on amazon.com It looks like it's out of stock now but they usually get it back in after a bit. http://www.amazon.com/Closys-Antisep...545898&sr=8-10

Oops, I just checked this link and it was $39.99! It used to be $20. So this is not the best place to get it I guess!!

I also use Dr. Ellie's protocal. I really feel the difference in my teeth. I am not so keen on the flouride so I'm going to start using xylitol products to ph balance instead of ACT.

i just use a little bar of hotel soap to brush my teeth.

I'm new to the zylitol products and have been impressed with how incredibly smooth my teeth feel.

For my DC I've been following a modified version of the system mentioned by PPs. Using products from The Natural Dentist, zylitol products, and Oravive.

Basically we brush and floss a LOT.

I agree!

Can I ask what type of soap you ladies use?

Well, not being good about this like I should..

I brush at least twice a day (yeah, we all hear this.)

I try to floss at least 5-6 times a week. I'm human. 7 won't happen.

I've also started using this mouthwash at least once a day: http://www.dentist.net/periowash.asp

I get mine from my local HFS chain.

Is Closys vegan? Or is there a vegan alternative?

I think Closys is vegan? Here are the ingredients: http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/pro...?prod_id=98811

You don't have to add the flavor oil (peppermint oil). I never do.

I've been brushing with Dr. Bronners!
I follow that up with Baking Soda and Myrhh.

In the future, I am going to mix some Baking Soda with some powdered Xylitol and make a tooth powder. I may put ginger powder in there too.

I do brush with flouride toothpaste every so often just to cover my bets. Also I will buy some MI paste at some point . . .

Interesting...I am going to read the Dr. Ellie link......

I have never heard of soap used for brushing---the taste would be hard to handle (Bronners I could deal with--but hotel soap--the thought makes me queasy)

I'm using DR. Ellie's system. I love Dr. Ellie's system. I use the ACT, but spit it out really well. I don't drink any tap water, so no fluoride in my water (Which dr. ellie is against--ingesting fluoride).

All I can say is a big fat THANK YOU to this board for mentioning Dr. Ellie. I had gone 32 years w/out a single cavity and filling, and then pregnancy did me in. ANyways, Dr. Ellie's system has helped my teeth sensitivity tremendously. :::

I just checked out Dr. Ellie's system, and I'm kind of surprised that she doesn't include "flossing" as one of the steps. In the FAQ she even says that you don't have to floss. I don't know about that.

If you use her system, and floss, at what point in the steps do you do the floss?

you floss after closys, before brushing.

I had a dentist, years ago, tell me to floss before I brushed.
