In search of "breastfeeding friendly" docs in the Twin Cities

Do they exist?! Does anyone have any suggestions of how to find them? I'm looking for peds and family practice docs that are breastfeeding friendly so I can compile a list. I am thinking of asking some local midwives, but wondered if anyone else has suggestions.

Thanks!

ALL the pediatricians I've seen have encouraged breastfeeding. I've seen various providers at the Partners in Pediatrics clinic in Uptown. My son is 2 1/2 now and at his well child visits, they no longer ask if he's nursing, but probably would not bat an eyelash if I said that he still was. However when ds was a couple months old and gaining weight well, one of the doctors gave me guidelines about not letting him nurse more than 20 minutes at a time and waiting at least 5 minutes between each feeding--or something like that. I was able to throw that piece of advice out the window, and I haven't seen that doctor since.
The only issue that I had was with an urgent care doctor at the Park Nicollet clinic who I saw for bronchitis. I asked him if the antibiotic was prescribing for me was okay for nursing moms, and he was not sure, so prescribed a different one that he knew was safe. Plus my son who was 1 1/2 at the time was in the exam room with me and the doc said "You're still nursing *him*"?

Our family physician is very BF-friendly. She breastfed her own daughter till at least 2.5 yrs. (It may well have been longer...just never came up in conversation after that.)

Her name is Sarah Maier, and she works at the Fairview Hiawatha Clinic in S. Minneapolis.

Breastfeeding seems to be highly encouraged in all of the practices I've ever been in, I've never had any issues at all with HCPs. Not every health care practitioner is gung-ho about breastfeeding, but they treat it as normal. When I told my HCPs that I was breastfeeding my toddlers, I received nothing but positive responses.

FWIW, we usually go to Park Nicollet clinics. I've been to many of their locations in the south metro- Eagan, Prior Lake, Shakopee, Bloomington, St. Louis Park, in addition to Methodist Hospital, and I've never had an experience that wasn't BFing-friendly.

I use Dr Emily Benzie at North Memorial in Minneapolis (NE Minneapolis) - she's a family Dr. She's pro-breastfeeding - she asks me every time how nursing is going, and she has pro-breastfeeding posters in her office. She's also been very good with our not vaccinating, told us not to introduce solids until 6 months, didn't try to Rx us any supplements or meds while DS had bad reflux, etc.

I went to Dr. Jane O'Neil at Fairview CedarRidge in Apple Valley. She's a family practice dr, very down-to-earth. She has 4 kids of her own, and has spoken of her bfing often (when I got mastitis at 2 weeks pp, she told of the story of her getting it when her dd was over a year and the looks she got from that). I would recocmend her in a heartbeat! I wish I still lived up there, I'd still go to her!

The doctors at Hennepin Faculty Associates are breastfeeding friendly. We've see Eileen Crespo, MD and Teresa Reid, MD.

Don't know if we should name the not-so-good names as well as good. But in the interest of being helpful... Maplewood Healtheast is kinda iffy - I started seeing Dr. Goodspeed there, who kept pointing out stuff that is in formula & not BM, plus she mentioned that sometimes it is okay for baby to CIO. AT MY SONS TWO MONTH APPT! I have subtly switched to Dr. Prall, who seems wonderful.
