Looking for no-vax'ing WI moms! Have questions

I'm hoping to start ds in Connections Academy next year. (It's a virtual public school based in Appleton)

We haven't vax'd at all and I'm wondering exactly how we need to handle this - where do I find that philosophical exemption form? I'm assuming I need to fill something out.... When I enroll him, do I just give them a copy of it and that's it?

I've also been reading so much in our papers lately about how local kids will be expelled for not vaxing - they don't mention anything about exemptions, of course - just wondering if any laws have changed on this that might effect us?

Also - if you happen to be in the South-Central WI (We're South of Madison) area, I'm on the look out for a good dr - alternative or otherwise, that I can take ds to if he does happen to get sick with something other than a simple cold - any recommendations?

Thanks!!!

I'm totally not in your area, and don't have school age children yet. But, my dd is in a day care that is run by the UW. We had to fill out a bunch of enrollment forms, including a vaccination record. Dd has no vaccinations, and the form has a check box for philosophical exemption. It is possible that the school's enrollment forms will cover it. Good luck!

Wow - it would be great if it were that easy! I appreciate you replying!

It is getting crazy here! Our friends' middle-schooler was just sent home with a letter stating that they would be fined $25 a day (!) until he received all of his "boosters". They thought that he was completely up-to-date, which he most likely was. Apparently this letter was sent out to a lot of parents.

However, I have 2 kids in Madison's public schools and their non-vax status hasn't been an issue (it was brought up after they had chicken pox and once to see if they needed to "update their records"). The school provided the philosophical exemption form. We'll see how it goes when ds goes off to middle school next year.

I wonder if a virtual school would even ask for vax records?

We recieved that letter too. There were vaxes added for middle schoolers recently, so those that were up to date may not be now.

All we've ever had to do is check a box that says philosophical exemption, and if your child has had some vax they ask you to list which ones you are exempting. We've never had any hassle with the school district.

We looked into virtual schooling awhile back and I'm pretty sure that they still require proof of vax or exemption.

Connections Academy is still considered a public school, so I'm thinking that they would have to at least go by the WI laws. Normally I don't mind confrontation, but sometimes I waiver a bit on my no-vax stand - I don't want anyone to pressure me!

Hang in there! I have listened to so many nurses try to scare people into vaccinating and taking pharmaceutical drugs! Just because they tell you a scary story (that may even be true) does not mean that it is likely that your child will have that same experience, kwim?

When you register him you should get a vax history form and the exemption choices are at the bottom. You just check one and sign it.

I've heard good things about the Wildwood Family Clinic (in Cottage Grove, I think) as far as being okay with no vax and other AP practices.

My DD's preschool just had a box to mark philosophical exemption. I'm pretty sure even if they threaten to kick your child out or fine you, you just have to fill out the exemption form and they can not legally do that.

My kids were accepted into Connections this year but we declined. IIRC, there wasn't any info included on exemptions, just a page asking for vaccination info. You will need to fill out a philo form and add it to the paperwork. http://www.vaclib.org/exempt/wisconsin.htm
