PKU Tests

Hi ladies,

KatieSue just had her blood done for the newborn screening (PKU)

I held her (not nursing) while the midwife did the heal stick, and the amount of screaming was about the same as a diaper change. She cried when she first got stuck, calmed down while the midwife filled most of the circles, then cried a little bit at the end. I only took the time to share because it really was not as big of a deal as I was expecting and it did not seem as painful for her as I thought it might be.

What were everyone else's experiences?

I was nursing Nora when she got her PKU heel prick done, she fussed maybe a little and had a whimper, but honestly it was nothing. She screamed more when they took her blood for the billirubin check. They wouldn't let me hold her, let alone nurse her. Those jerks. But yeah, I agree, no big deal for the PKU, thank goodness!
