sigh, pertussis - Page 2

I had it while 5.5 months pregnant and utd. Ds was 2, had it, and was also utd. I fared much worse than he did.

Sodium Ascorbate can help with pertussis.

DTaP is possibly the most reactive vaccine. As others have said, it can cause fever & febrile seizure, high-pitched screaming, convulsions, and even encephalitis. People have been accused of and even jailed for Shaken Baby Syndrome when their children died following a DTaP vaccine. The symptoms are that similar.

am not for vaxing but I do believe in being completely informed.
I had Whooping cough at the age of 8 ( I was vaxed) I coughed so hard that I caused 2 hernias that needed to be surgically repaired.
I don't think my case is typical but the vaxes don't work as well as they would like us to believe. Both me and my brother were vaxed and both of us got it and had it for like 3 mos.

I have also experienced both. DD1 was given the DTaP at 2 months, the last vax she was ever given. I went against my better judgement and did the vax, it was the last time I did not listen to myself. She had a "mild" vax reaction, high pitched screaming for hours, then she slept for almost 2 days straight, barely waking to nurse. Very abnormal for her, the child never slept, not even as an infant, and I couldn't wake her after the vax. I don't know what DD1 would of been like without the vax but I do think she would of been very different. She suffered from many food allergies for years, had a diagnosis of sensory processing disorder, along with other issues, and is just different.

DD1 just shy of 4 when DD2 was born, DH had pertussis when she was born, we just didn't realize it until she was a week old. It was too late for her, she had been throughly exposed by then. I won't sugarcoat it, pertussis in a newborn was hell. DD2 was very sick for a long time, she struggled with health issues, poor weight gain, low muscle tone, she was delayed for a while, and she was completely dependent on O2 until she was 7 months old. Today she is almost 2 and is doing quite well for her health history, she is very sensitive to illness. She catches every bug known to man and everything goes straight to her chest, she uses inhalers.

Pertussis in DD1 was only annoying, she would run around, cough, vomit, and go back to running around. I wouldn't be concerned with a child over year, really 6m. I totally agree with the poster that says pertussis rarely kills. The most dangerous thing with pertussis in a young baby is either a secondary infection or that the baby doesn't start breathing again after a coughing fit. SA really helps, and we used it for us. I will never vax for pertussis. I am pg with #3 right now, and yes I will be wary of pertussis with a newborn, but we also can't live in a bubble either.

He'll be 12 this fall, been seizure free for a year.(knock on wood)He's not as coordinated as the others.Didn't learn to ride a bike till he was almost eight.
Very smart academically.Hasn't really been sick. When we do catch a bug he seems to get hit pretty hard.Fortunately we're a pretty healthy bunch!

In hindsight I guess it could have been much worse.I just remember reading that if your child has a reaction continuing the next series of vaxes could cause a more serious reaction.I knew that but believed, was bullied by the doctor when he said they'd 'cleaned up the pertussis vax,it was much safer now:

Hope this isn't a uv but I honestly believe one day we'll look back and realize a whole generation of children was damaged by our blind obeisance to big pharma.

since #7 isnt vaxed, do you notice an immune difference?
So far she's been the healthiest of all.One fever that lasted two days at one yr,then she had a mild spotty rash on her trunk for about two days. Two colds that lasted less then a week. One stomach bug that lasted 24hrs.
None of the stuff the others had like chicken pox, sore throats, ear infections,so yeah I wonder.
I do believe in the theory of heard immunity, that if 80-85% of the population is vaxed it pretty much kills the disease, like polio. What I don't get is why they're pushing vaxes for fairly non-lethal childhood diseases when the vaxes don't work very well and the long term consequences aren't known.Other than $$$$ it's beyond me.

In the case of pertussis though, this a moot point since that particular vaccine doesn't prevent transmission.
