This ties in with the recent question about cervix checking... but it made me curious because I have tried and failed a few times in the last week or so to check my own cervix and I just can't seem to get to it lol.

thos of you who checked your own cervix late in pregnancy.. how did you do it? Is there a good position for it?

thanks!

Also meant to ask... Did any of your husbands/partners check your cervix for you at home? I've mentioned it to my DH and he's a bit reluctant - have you got any advice for him? thanks!

I looked at pictures and felt around for it I could never find it when actually looking. I had my husband try once a week too and he could never find it. Finally one night when we were getting ready to dtd I was like I found my cervix! It was extremely low all of a sudden at the entrance to my vagina and I just sort of felt it. I now have prolapse I so wish I couldn't find it again.
Everything I read from when I googled 'cervix self check' said to put one leg up on the bath tub or toilet for easiest access.

Good Luck! Your cervix may just be very high up.

I just found this:

How to Check Your Own Cervix- "it's not rocket science"

"I think it's a good and empowering thing for a woman to check her own cervix for dilation. This is not rocket science, and you hardly need a medical degree or years of training to do it. Your vagina is a lot like your nose- other people may do harm if they put fingers or instruments up there but you have a greater sensitivity and will not do yourself any harm.

"The best way to do it when hugely pregnant is to sit on the toilet with one foot on the floor and one up on the seat of the toilet. Put two fingers in and go back towards your bum. The cervix in a pregnant woman feels like your lips puckered up into a kiss. On a non-pregnant woman it feels like the end of your nose. When it is dilating, one finger slips intothe middle of the cervix easily (just like you could slide your finger into your mouth easily if you are puckered up for a kiss). As the dilation progresses the inside of that hole becomes more like a taught elastic band and by 5 cms dilated (5 fingerwidths) it is a perfect rubbery circle like one of those Mason jar rings that you use for canning, and about that thick.

"What's in the centre of that opening space is the membranes (bag of waters) that are covering the baby's head and feel like a latex balloon filled with water. If you push on them a bit you'll feel the baby's head like a hard ball (as in baseball). If the waters have released you'll feel the babe's head directly.

I'm going to give it a go tonight.. I'll let you know if I"m successful or not!

Where did you find the pictures? I'm really curious about this too.

I found it!

I sat on the edge of the bath instead of the toilet.. I had to feel around for a bit.. I thought it would be higher up rather than further back. But if you follow what they say in the previous post you shoudl find it ok.

It felt really soft and one finger slipped it... then I freaked out a bit lol so I stopped! haha.. but I guess that means I'm about a cm... I'll check again in a week or two. I've just reached the 37 week mark, so I don't want to do anything to intrusive lol. But I'm glad I found it.. I'll definitely keep checking.. and it'll be good to be able to check during labor (pain permitting!)
