Should I be concerned about having my almost 6 week baby near recently vaxed kids?

We don't vax. We're thinking about doing some much later, but so far my almost 6 week old DD has had no vaxes (not that she would this early anyway).

I'm nervous about older children being around her, touching her, touching her blankets, toys, etc.

Should I be concerned about recently vaxed kids "shedding" disease on my clean baby?

ETA: I have two nieces who hang out with us a lot. One is 2 years old and one is 7 months. My husband and I were thinking about asking their moms (his sisters) what their vaccine schedules are so we can avoid them if they are "shedding."

We're being paranoid, right? I really don't see that going over very well with the parents of our nieces.

Sorry if this is rambling, but I'm freaking out because I recently found out that one of our nieces was near our baby shortly after a round of vaxes!

And wondering if it applies to toddlers as well - my daughters flu vaxed friend wants to have a playdate on the day of the vax.

EDIT: answered here

It really depends a lot on whether your are nursing the child or not. Nursing just offers so much protection to a child, that it really can make you relax.

You could ask their mother to just let you know when they are getting vaccines and what type.

The one I would worry about is the rotavirus and of course the flu mist.

As for MMR, no worry imo. You want your child exposed to that anyway. And as long as you are nursing, you'll build some antibodies as soon as your child gets any of the viruses.

Nursing is your and your child's' best self-defence.

... which makes me wonder, what if a mom can't nurse for some reason? (I know that's off topic - sorry.)

theres a site, something like milkbank.org or something similar, where u can find a breastfeeding mom near u w/ a baby around the same age as yours. the best part is, the milk is free!!

BUT as far as the shedding goes, I think u only have to worry about the live viruses

I think your being a little paranoid.

Only live virus vaccines are the ones that shed. So it's not all vaccines that shed.

Thanks ... I should have phrased that as, what if a mom needs to formula-feed for some reason? (Again, I know it's off-topic, but Gitti's comment suggests her answer applies to babies who are getting breastmilk; I'm interested in answers that apply to formula-fed babies, as well.)

I do agree that the OP probably only needs to worry about vaxes that shed, and most of them do not.

Its better to be exposed through the bodies first level of defence than the second. Easier for the body to fight. I no longer vax but i also do not worry about her catching shed vaccines as i nurse her.

Depends on the shot. If it is a live, shedding virus, yep! And the flu shot, live or not, no one is allowed to visit my toddlers for 2 weeks AFTER receiving the shot. Everyone I know has gotten sick after getting that nasty shot and I don't want to spend days up with twins fighting a cold if I don't have too! I would be leary around 12-15 month olds that have received the MMR and CP vax as well with a baby so young.
