Need a doctor referral for second opinion (Lincoln, NE)

I have a feeling I'm going to need a second opinion here very soon. My doctor (McNeely, of Holy Family) has been concerned that Sophia is "too big."

At 18 months, he wanted to do blood tests to rule out hormone issues. She has ALWAYS been in the 98th or 99th percentile for ALL measurements and we felt like he was jumping the gun. He said we could wait until her 2 year checkup and if she was still growing so far above the curve, he'd want the blood work done then.

Well, sure enough, she's still growing. So I submitted her to the blood draw. It was rough for her, but at two I was able to explain to her what was going on so I was comfortable with that.

Of course everything came out normal.

But today I got a call from his nurse saying he wants to schedule a brain MRI. I'm assuming this is because her head measurement is "too big" ??

I DO NOT want to do this. She shows NO other signs of anything being wrong! I don't want to subject her to anymore doctor trauma at this age when by all appearances she is just a big, healthy girl.

I would appreciate some feedback here - either referrals to a doctor who is not so alarmist about head circumference or to tell me that it's something we should get done for x,y,z reasons.

Ya know my oldest is also HUGE on her head circumference..she is in the 100th percentile and my ped. has never even batted an eyelash at it. She is also in the 98th percentile for her other measurements as well. She is in Bellevue however so I don't know if you want to drive an hour away. Her name is Monique Macklem and she is with Children's Physicians on Hwy 370. I would not be too excited about doing that MRI but that is just my opinion. I hope it all works out for you mama.

Poor Sophia! She never looked 'too big' to me when I saw her last, that a year ago though huh?! Wow! What about Dr. Niazi? Isn't that who a lot of the other moms see? There are great DRs in Omaha of course, we see Dr. Lisa Whitcomb at 178th and Q and she's never had problems w/ our kids, who tend to be the other way on the growth chart. Is Sophia still on the same curve or is she just getting bigger and going above her old curve? Have you talked to your family to find out if there was anyone w/ her growth curve before? Is she proportionate? How does she come out on the BMI chart? Have you googled to see what would cause big height and weight? I know some things do weight and if she was only gaining weight, I would be more concerned, but if her height is keeping up too, not so much. Hugs!
