Bella seems to continually get yellow eye gunk in her left eye. Sometimes it's moist, other times it's dry and crusty. Does anyone else's baby have this? If so, what are you doing about it? It's only on her right eye. DS had this on both eyes, and his ped at the time prescribed eye drops. This time, I'm not so sure it's worth calling the ped over.

Yes, Jillian had this earlier in the week. For her it was a clogged tear duct. This is what my midwife said to do...
At each feeding:
-apply a warm compress to baby's eye. (We heated a damp washcloth in the microwave for 10 seconds and then waited for it to cool slightly.)
-after compress, massage the area between inner corner of the eye and nose. About 5-10 small circles.
-express a few drops of breastmilk into the eye.
We also read this in a Dr. Sears article:

I really think the breastmilk is the key. Some people have said that it lasted up to 3 or 4 months for them, but they were not doing the breastmilk. Jillian's only lasted 3 days.

Mine does! Incidentally, does anyone else try to express the breast milk directly from breast to eye? That's hard to do--my aim is not so good.
Next time I think I'll try expressing it into a cup and then using a dropper.

I did right into the eye b/c mine just kind of oozes out. It was kind of messy sometimes, but we made it work. A dropper would have been easier though.

My baby has lots of eye goop. I've never heard about using breastmilk for it though. I may have to try that.

A few of my babies have had this happen as newborns. A squirt of breastmilk right into the eye always cures it for us. Sometimes I may have to do it more than once, but it usually goes away very quickly.
