I would love to join this little sewing circle. I'm new to sewing...just bought my first new machine and I'm just sort of learning as I go. Jlpumpkin, can I ask where you found that peter pan pattern? My son would love that.

At class this week we sewed our darts and then pressed our bodice pieces, pinned them together, and sewed the bodice pieces together. We haven't put the zipper on yet. It was so great to get on the machine and really sew!

I'm pleased to report that little man won first in the Disney division at the annual halloween parade. I didn't have a pattern though. I just cut an 'x' in green felt and put it over his head. I marked the lowest I wanted the points to hang and chalked his sides. Sew up the side seams and cut the zigzags. I rounded the back of the x and opened up the front one to make a collar. That's it... hardest part was getting the wiggler to hold still!

Ditto that! I'm in love with the sheet set and the cosleeper. Sooooo jealous!

Neuromancer - so glad to hear that your class is going well. Please share pictures of your dress when it's finished.

I'm still in limbo on my to do list since I've run out of funds to buy my fabric. Couple that with the fact that I totally spaced on renewing the book until it was too late and someone already has a hold on it. I may have to finagle a way to buy the book...it's not like it would be a waste of money as I actually think I'll make 80-90% of what's in there.

As for my list...it's still growing:
-Some handkerchiefs for my dad out of some flannel, these will be bigger than the ones I made for dh as he likes his humungo.
-A tent from "Sewing in No Time" by Emma Hardy for ds for Christmas
-A floor cushion from "Sewing in Not Time" to go in ds' tent
-A peg board for my mom and my youngest sister for Christmas
-Pick something out for my middle sister for Christmas
-Find something to make dd for Christmas. She's only 8mos and eventually I'd probably make a tent for her too, but it seems like it'd be silly to do at this point since she's so young
-Find a free pattern to make some soft sole shoes for dd so we stop leaving a trail of socks behind us where ever we go and she stops having toes like ice...I'm thinking courduroy here to start.
-Make a quilt for our king size bed. I'm actually thinking fleece here, just a simple pattern with the seam allowances on the outside, a plain fleece on the backside, no batting, and quilting it like folks do with yarn, but with thin strips of flannel instead (and a yarn darning needle)
-Darn all sorts of socks...no one has slippers here and it seems like every week there are a few more socks with holes in them.

Tee! JlPumpkin, my dd's Laural Ingalls costume's dress is that brown calico that you used for the top and bottom tier of your dd's skirt set. I LOVE that fabric. Dd asked me if I could make her something ELSE out of it, too, that she could wear when she ISN'T playing dress up after halloween.

I have to put the sleeves and hem on the dress and make the apron and bonnet tomorrow.

I have the satin sewn into the sock bunnies' ears, and will work on their faces Tuesday night.

I TOTALLY NEED encoragement LOL. I have 2 dresses that have been in the works for like 2 months and now I need to make DDs costume. I'll be kind of winging that since I couldn't find a pattern I wanted.

Oh and I'd like to add that I am so impressed by the stuff you all are sewing. There are definately some ideas you are giving me!

As for machines, I have a singer that my mom gave me 14 years ago. I need to get it checked out cuz I can't make that zig zag stitch work right no matter what I do. It's really frustrating and pretty much the reason why I haven't sewn in 2 months. I also have a serger that I got off of freecycle (how cool is that?). It's just a 3 thread and I need to adjust the tension on one, but OMG it is sooooo freaking cool to sew and cut all at the same time. I made a bunch of baby wipes when I got it, but it's been sitting ever since then. I want to use it agian, but I am not sure how to incorporate that in with make things other then wipes LOL.

Well i have finished all my swap items, my DD's halloween costume (i am really hoping i won't need mine, baby due Nov 1) maybe i should make it and have it ready so i ensure i don't need it. Also i have finished another 6 pocket dipes, and have a dozen left i think.

i am working on those dipes and xmas present so i still have time for those.

I've got 2 t shirt bags that I made a different way. Cut the sleeves off, cut the neckband off, fold the t shirt so the side seams lie on top of each other (centre front and centre back) and the sleeve holes are also on top of each other. Pin the new bottom edge. Sew. Done. You can mess about with the size of the handle holes and the size of the opening which was the neck hole as you please.

I've been sewing like crazy over the last few weeks . I made DD1 a dog costume for Halloween, made a princess for DD2, and repaired DD2's favorite blanket last night. On deck are curtains for DH's study. Oh, and I also finished a wrap skirt for myself that I started at the beginning of the summer.

I've got my machine set up in DH's office so every evening after the kids are asleep, he goes in there to work on his model train projects and I sew. We both love having this time together, but doing our own thing .

treadle machines are so neat, I'd love to try one sometime...there is actually one outside of my sewing room ~ its our landlords.

I was jealous when I read "I've been sewing like crazy.." but, the only thing stopping me from that is me...

yesterday I did sew a patch onto DP's jeans where the knee split, I used a patch that had been sewn on and cut off another pair of jeans I left the outside of the original jeans on it, kind of stringy, I think it looks cool.
