Hey, I'm new here--sortof--I think I had another signin once, when my kids were younger, but I can't remember anything about it or the email address it was connected to. Anyhow, I'm a sewing, knitting, mom-o-twins, CDing (well, until the potty learned this spring) gardening gal in Sugarhouse. I'm from Las Vegas, been here for 2 years.

I'm always looking for play-groups for myself and my kids, knitting groups, gardening groups, sewing groups, and engaging children activities. My kids just turned three and I'm having a more difficult time finding playmates now that their friends are enrolling in preschool.

I am also looking for midwife/obgyn referrals. My first pregnancy was well managed (and difficul-PTL/Incompetent cervix) in Las Vegas but I would like a more natural delivery. I'm confident that a new pregnancy wouldn't be as high-risk but I want to be monitored closely during the critical period. My husband would prefer that a new baby be delivered in a hospital. I would prefer that I am able to walk around, not be confined to a bed, able to labor in water, not be offered drugs, nurse immediately, forgo newborn bathing. Does such a place exist?

I know there is a birthing center around called Bella Natal. It looks like what you want, but I haven't checked it out personally or anything.

Maybe you can check out the Birth and Family place, birth center.

If you have to go to a hossy I would say the University Hospital would be the best. THey are the only one in Utah considered "baby friendly"

Welcome!!! What lizzy said. I birthed my daughter at the Birth and Family Center with Rebecca McKinnis and it was INCREDIBLE. They have open houses on the third Wednesday of every month (so...the 15th of this month) where you can meet former patients and the midwife, take a tour, eat snacks, and ask questions. I've heard great things about the midwives at the U, but the facility is not yet officially "baby-friendly" per WHO/UNICEF guidelines. I understand that they are working towards that designation, which is positive, they just haven't quite met the guidelines yet.
