Pineapple

Is there a certain amt I'm supposed to eat?

Got a fresh pineapple last night. My 1st fresh one! Not trying to necessarily INDUCE labor, but to at least assist with what my body's doing now.

Anywho... got it all chopped up and started munching on it. No one ever told me it would make your tongue burn!! So I had to stop eating it, lol. Got about a 4th, maybe more eaten though.

Is there supposed to be a certain amt I have to eat before it does anything worthwhile? Cause if so, I gotta find a way to make it stop burning my tongue, lmao!!!

Ouch! Some people are definitely more sensitive to pineapple than others. I know my Dad is a little allergic to it and can only eat a little or else he'll get a rash around his mouth. You might have to eat just a little and find a more Amy Lynn appropriate cervical ripening agent.

Too much pineapple does that to my tongue, too, which is a huge bummer b/c I love it!

Have you tried massaging EPO into your cervix? All I've been doing to help things down there along is taking EPO orally & trying to dtd once every other day (all I can stand!) for the prostaglandins. Buying a fresh pineapple is tempting, though.. lol

Yum!! Never heard of pineapple to induce labor, but... YUM!! I could eat some right now. My mouth is so dry no matter how much water I drink, and I have been craving all kinds of juicy fruits! I might go and get one. It makes my tounge burn too, but it goes away pretty fast!

What does pineapple do to induce labor? I looooove fresh pineapple. Maybe a trip to the store is in order....

Something to do with enzymes, but has to be fresh, not canned.

I ate a quarter of a pineapple the day before I went into labor with DS... I have been craving it for a few days now but I'm kind of reluctant to eat any seeing as today I am 36+2 which is exactly where I was with DS. Probably a coincidence, but who knows.

Now I want to go to the store. I'm 41 weeks and I want this baby to come out!

Dang! I didn't know that it had to be fresh and not canned! I've been eating tons of the stuff - there is no fresh pineapple here now.
Doh! All of that extra sugar for nothing, . It's been yummy, though.

Yup, it needs to be fresh but ladies, the enzyme is similar but not identical to the one that starts labour. Also, you probably need to eat somewhere in the region of 8 (yes 8) pineapples for it to actually have an effect ... which is great if you like pineapple but I would guess have a pretty dodgy effect on your tum tum.

Me, I like pineapple and am happily munching it (but not 8!!). :

OMG!!! :

mkmb129- I've been using EPO, but I can't reach my cervix... too high I guess... so I've just been poking holes in a capsule and inserting every night before bed, lol.

farmerjess- LMAO at the "Amy Lynn appropriate cervical ripening agent" He-he!

As for what it is that can induce you it's some enzyme called Bromelain (sp??) that contains the stuff that's in epo & semen to ripen your cervix (prostaglandins??). I figured it was at least worth trying, even if it just softens my cervix a wee bit

Someone also suggested watermelon and eggplant (sorry, I've not read the other posts) if pineapple is too acidic for you.

My midwives say to eat the whole thing. I think that in addition to the enzymes, it helps get your bowls moving which can help kick start labor. So spicy foor and other bowl irritants might also help things along!

I wonder if fermented pineapple would work as well, it's easier for me to digest, although I wouldnt want to eat a whole pineapples worth at once.
