Well, my baby boy finally arrived, 5 days past my due date. I have been so consumed with adjusting to my new life that I have not been on the mothering boards until now. My sweet baby boy, Lyam Harrison was born October 4th at 11:001 pm, weighing 9 lbs 12 oz, and 22 inches in length.
Lyam was born via c-section; it's a long story but the short version is that I was in active labor for 21 hours and had some obvious progression problems, finally after trying pitocin for the last 5 hours and making no progress (still at 6 cm, with uneven effacement) we had a c-section. The c-section revealed that I have a heart-shaped uterus, with one lobe being smaller than the other and I have since learned that it would have been impossible to vaginally birth a baby of this size with such a uterus. I am at peace with the birth, even though it was not the birth I had dreamed of. We have a very healthy baby and that is really all that matters to me now. As most new mothers already know, I am completely exhausted but happy. He is a great nurser, but I am starting to wonder if he likes nothing else but to suck suck suck! I know that it is good for him, but I am getting pretty tired and sore after a few nights of non-stop nursing marathons. We went to the pediatrician on Friday (Oct. 10) and he had already gained 3 oz. since we released from the hospital on Tuesday (Oct. 7).
