new here - have a question about floradix or vitanica iron :)

I'm just wondering if either of these has caused nausea for any of you who have taken them. I am 6 days pp and severely anemic but CANNOT handle these iron supplements my OB gave me. I had HG until 35.5 weeks and am really not interested in continuing nausea, you know? I've been reading as many threads as I can about the two supplements, but haven't found anything regarding nausea yet. TIA!

Floradix did not cause nausea for me, but unfortunately it also didn't boost my iron levels. It works great for some mamas, and not so great for others.

I never tried the other one you mentioned. I have used Tri-Iron (by Trilight Herbs) and it works great and also no tummy issues.

I take that and an other encapsulated supplement, that's chelated iron (iron bisglycinate). The label reads that it's "formulated for maximum absorption without gastriointestinal irritation or the constipating effects that often accompany iron supplementation."

Be sure no matter which form you go with, that you avoid calcium when you take iron, as that interferes with absorption. Take it with some form of vitamin C (like juice), which helps absorption. You can also try cooking with cast iron too.

Good luck!

Do you mean nausea that lasts for more than a few minutes? I know the floradix makes me want to vomit if I taste it too much, so I use a child's medicine dropper to squirt the meds at the back of my mouth and then chug orange juice afterwards. Dunno if that might help you out or not.

Oh no - like all day. I can handle little bouts of nausea and can hold vomit indefinitely, so your plan sounds good for me to try.

Thanks for both of your replies - it's seems really big here to a newbie.

Vitanica Iron worked wonders for me, and it never upset my stomach even a little. It took my H&H from 9 and 24 to 15 and 45, within 3 months. Bonus of it being a capsule, there's no taste involved.

I like the floradix. But I did always have a juice chaser! no nausea.

I used floradix (mixed with water and chased with something flavorful). No nausea.
