I need a homebirth midwife in SLC!

I have read the old threads on here about midwives in the area, but I always thought that when I needed to find one I could do a search. Well, thanks to archiving EVERYTHING in Finding Your Tribe , it's become near impossible. So it'd be great if I could have a list of midwives you've used or heard of and what you liked/didn't like about them (you can pm me if some of it's not allowed on here). I'm planning a homebirth next June, and I live in West Jordan. Thanks!

I also live in West Jordan I am seeing a wonderful midwife who does home births and just opened a birth suite (which is where I'll be going) in Murray, Rebecca Williams. She is so awesome and I heard so many good things about her on here. Her website is www.greatexpectationsbc.com

I'm seeing Suzanne Smith for my homebirth in December. She also delivered my second daughter a few years ago. Her website is www.betterbirth.com.

Thanks for posting her link! I heard her BC just opened. I've heard wonderful things about Rebecca, and she is who I am planning on seeing when I have #2!

Jules Johnstun is fantastic. We ended up moving back to Oregon when I was 7 mo along but up until that point she was providing our care.

I have another question, so far we have interviewed one of the midwives (have 3 more interviews set up next week), and she said that since it's illegal for her to attend homebirthed twins, breech, or after 42 weeks she doesn't do them. Is that true for all the midwives in the area? She also didn't seem very supportive of other homebirth midwives around here. I thought that was odd.

Midwife in SLC

Cathy Larson is wonderful. She actually lived in West Jordan... She was affiliated with Better Birth when she assisted me, but has since begun her own practice. She was wonderful. I am not sure how you would contact her now though.

Thanks everyone! We've decided to go with Melissa Mayo and Chris Miller (they share a practice), we only met Melissa because Chris was at a birth but dh and I both really liked her. I actually liked Jules a little bit more personality wise, but we both feel more comfortable with someone that has more experience since it's our first. We're very excited!

Just to address the legality issue. It is true for licensed midwives that they can't attend births for multiples, breeches and pregnancies going past 43 weeks. However, unlicensed midwives can legally attend any of these.

Yes that is true. If you want to have any of these types of birth you need to go to an UNlicenced midwife. There are some really fantastic and experienced unlicenced midwives in Utah. A lot of them prefer to not be licenced because they are not willing to give up breaches and twins. For a referal check out www.motheringyourway.com and email them asking for referals.

Chris was my midwife for the birth of my little boy, and she is awesome. She really knows her stuff. I was able to meet Melissa Mayo, as well, and while I felt like Chris and I "clicked" better, I would feel quite comfortable and confident in having Melissa attend a birth, as well.

I apprentice with Chris and Melissa and love them both dearly. Melissa was my midwife for my second birth/1st homebirth and I will be seeing them both now that I am knocked up again

I'll still be there. I'm not due until the end of July (translate to the baby coming the middle of August...silly long brewing babies of mine) so I will be attending births up until the day I deliver. Thanks!
