When is the RSV season?

Has anyone treated RSV with SA? Any other treatments you'd recommend?

If you had babe born at 37 wks with a week in NICU because of breathing problems would you give the RSV Synagis shot? I know it's expensive but am hoping that we could qualify for it if I determine it's necessary.

Synagis is an immunoglobulin, so it's not like other vaccines and it works in a different way in your immune system. IME even most people who are anti-vaccine in general opt for synagis if they qualify.

RSV season here (MidWest) is November-April. My twins were born at 30 weeks in March with very little breathing problems (1 twin on room air from birth the other on CPAP for a week but were mostly feeders/growers). We didn't do the RSV shots, they are completely vax free as well. The last 2 winters we have not gone anywhere in public but have visited friends and family at their homes.

DS is now 4, but born at 37 weeks with breathing problems, in the NICU for 4 weeks. We did do 2 winters of Synagis shots and I would absolutely do them. Our insurance originally denied us, but we had letters from our Ped. and from the NICU dr. Insurance finally agreed. I had 2 daughters in public school at the time, and DH had to go to work, so we were exposed to all sorts of sickness, regardless of whether we went out or not. We made it through those 2 seasons sickness free, aside from a couple of stuffy noses, but I would definitely do it again, DS is a healthy happy 4 year old now.

I would if I could. My 36 weeker, who has lung damage (from birth) did not qualify for it, even with letters from her doctors. She's had RSV twice. : I *hate* insurance companies.

My DD had the shots for 2 seasons - she was a 28wker with 11 wk NICU stay. It was the last week of July on 02 when we got home.

We started the first season of shots in October I believe. Both seasons it ended at different times because of the varing RSV season.

We were lucky not only did Insurance pay for most of it, we had a traveling Nurse come to the house to administer the shots every month.
