I can't do violent movies any more - Page 2

Yep, me too. Although I do believe that anxiety disorders are a big factor in this for me as well. I used to have a stomach that could take anything... and now I can hardly watch anything on standard tv, let alone a violent movie. Even a moderate amount of tension in a movie can really do me in. Suckage. Especially for someone that likes the bizarre, like David Lynch movies and Chuck Palahniuk novels. It's almost like I'm TRYING to torture myself, but at the same time I really do like that stuff and think it's brilliant.

same here. I can handle an action flick with violence because well, it's not about twisted minds and torture but rather money and greed that just happens to lead to violence... not that that makes it ok... I just don't get irked out by that because I could never find myself or my kids in that situation. I can also sometimes handle your zombie, alien, monster type of movie because that as well doesn't have sick motivtion behind the killings... just some creature on a path of destruction (but I can't handle gore, YUCK). The movies I really can't handle since having a kiddo are the serial killer type movies. I haven't seen any of the Saw movies or even Hanibal movies. A pal of mine loves horror movies and especially movies about serial killers and keeps trying to get me to watch movies like Sweeny Tod... I just can't do it. She can never just understand why I can't watch them... I just can't! I can't watch anything of a creepy nature at night either. Pepole without kids just sometimes don't get the connection we all make when we have kids. Prior to kids we all put ourselves in the victims position while or after watching such a movie but, when you're a parent you put your kids in that position and it makes you want to vomit. It makes society where serial killers are a very real thing seem much closer to home and likely. No parent wants that. I suppose there are parents who can keep seperation between movies and real life but, I just can't so I dont' watch.

I haven't watched an action/violent movie or show since I got pg with #2. Drives Dh nuts, but I just can't stand to watch them.

This has been an interesting thread. I love action movies of the 80s type...if it starred Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Van Damme, Seagal, Mel Gibson, etc, it was probably one of my favourites. I still love them. They're violent, but a lot of them are also...fun? I don't like a lot of modern action movies, because they're too...edgy? dark? gritty? I don't know, but they bother me.

I can't relate to the horror movie change many of you have been through, because I never liked them. They just weirded me out for days or weeks at a time, and would still occasionally bother me months later. I gave in and watched a few with my ex and some friends, and never watched another one. They're just not my thing.
