So, yesterday I realised I have been constantly scratching at my palms and the soles of my feet b/c they itch like crazy. No swelling, no rash just weird itching.
I Googled these symptoms and found this could be linked to cholastasis- an elevated liver enzyme condition in late pregnancy (I am 39 weeks today)- which can cause fetal distress and even result in a stillborn birth.
I didn't want to be silly but my itching was not going away so I paged the midwife on duty.
She called back and I told her my symptoms and she automatically brought up cholastasis as a possibility.
She told me to come in and get checked out either last night or today.I told her I talk it over with my DH and would likely be coming in right away.
She called back in 10 min. and said they really wanted to encourage me to come in right away and to prepare to be induced if there was any chance of me having this. She emphasized bringing all our bags and being ready to stay.
They drew my blood to test for it but this test takes 2-3 days to get results.
My urine thankfully had no protein or signs of the condition.
Baby was monitored and was fine...heart rate was good, movements, etc. On u/s, his fluid levels were fine and I was told he is a big boy. They checked me to see I have a softened cervix, baby is engaged/very low and my contrax are consistent yet I am not dilated at all and cervix is still posterior. Midwife said based on this, to induce would be a hard few days for me likely and would end in a c-section possibly. They ok'ed me to go home but I have to rest up and take Benedryl for itching- if it worsens, I go back right away- then tomorrow am, I go in for a visit and a nst/afi to check baby again.
Had just one element been different, they wouldn't have wanted to take a chance and I would have been induced.
They will know in a day or two from the blood work which will be reassuring.
She encouraged me to continue doing my evening primrose suppositories to get my cervix moving and said that it will not be too much longer so I should rest, rest, rest.
I suddenly have a wee bit of stretchmarks down very low on my belly by my pubic bone that has cropped up in the past day as Jaspy has dropped and engaged. This makes walking fun. *insert tone of sarcasm*
On a side note, there were so many mamas birthing last night. It was crazy there. My midwife delivered 3 babies in the 3-4 hours we were there alone. Wow whee!
The nurse told me they expect this on the day or so leading up to the full moon and into it. They are twice as busy then she said.
Anyways, wish me and baby Jaspy well on getting the birth we want soon and w/o induction. I have this gut feeling it will be very soon.

mama. So glad you escaped induction. I hope the next couple of days go by quickly for you and the EPO works to make your cervix more favorable for labor.

: It means a lot to me especially being caught in a waiting game until I get the results or baby comes (whichever is first). Feeling apprehensive until its time tomorrow for my appt. Also I feel so itchy- hands, feet and face- yuck.
