Newbie knitter ISO good videos

I'm brand new to knitting-- a good friend who I visited over the weekend showed me how to cast on and knit. Unfortunately, while practicing on the plane on the way home I realized that I must be missing a step, or making a gigantic mistake somewhere.

There are about a billion knitting videos around, so I'd really appreciate you linking me to your favorites. My cast on method isn't working! And I'm guessing that the knitting part won't go so well, either.

Please help! TIA!

Yay! I figured out what I was doing wrong. It was the casting on that wasn't working. It was actually DH who studied the videos and showed me what I was doing wrong!
