UGH! Dr's appointment! :irked:

I saw a new FNP today for a pap and IUD removal. I filled out their brief checklist and said "yes" to having concerns about weight/diet. The FNP said she noticed and asked if I'd like a referral a nutritionist. I declined.

And then she wouldn't drop it! Went on and on about the nutritionist. I mentioned again that I wasn't interested. Change the subject. Then as she's doing my pap she asks if I'm a binge eater. While her fingers are inside me!

UGH!

I was so annoyed. She also wasn't excited about taking out the IUD, didn't have anything good to say about other methods of BC and then argued with me about my insurance paying for the pap.

Needless to say, I'll be continuing my search for someone to see for well-woman care. It's annoying as I really only go in once a year, you know? So it's difficult to find someone...

Definitely find someone else! Have you tried a family practice doctor instead (or is that what an FNP is)? I would keep looking to find someone you like. Sorry I don't know your background but I wish I could see a nutritionist. Esp if you have concerns about diet/weight they can be so helpful. Unfortunately in the US consultations cost money so I can't. Are nutritionists covered in CA?

My dr has had all sorts of weird conversations while he's examining me & doing the swabs, he does it to relax me. he's pretty good, I'm usually laughing during the exams.

Do you have a family dr, or are there any who are taking new patients in your area(not sure where you are).

You said you had concerns about weight and diet and she was trying to address those.

What did you want her to say/do? Maybe if you had expanded on what you needed from her, she could have been helpful to you.

Why weren't you interested in seeing a nutritionist? They are the ones to see for weight/diet concerns.

Ugh, I feel ya. I've recently changed doctors for similar reasons, and I'm so happy. The first guy KEPT GOING ON about it, honestly each time I would answer politely but he'd keep going. The new lady I'm seeing is very honest, but gentle and sympathetic. Plus (since I've now decided to lose some weight) she was genuinely happy and supportive when I lost some, which was really nice.

So, keep looking, there are good doctors out there.

I'm sorry that happened to you. It sounds like she was really concerned about eating issues, but it was inappropriate to bring up binge eating at that time. If she felt it was necessary to address this issue then she should have after the exam was over.
