Gift for HB midwives?

Hi everyone. After an amazing home birth last month that I could not have done without the support of my midwives I would really like to get them a gift. My last appt. is at the end of this month. Has anyone done this? I just am not sure what is appropriate, I mean I did pay them after all. I wish I had the time or energy to make something but that is not happening in the next few weeks.

Any experiences with this?

TIA!

I gave my midwives (last preg) a Whole Foods gift basket - and more importantly, 3 individual cards with heartfelt words for eacch of the two mws and the student mw. I think it went over very well - it showed my appreciation without attempting to get personal when I was not actually a personal friend, even though to me they felt like my best friends in the world!

I did not have a home birth but I gave my midwife a small carved figurine of a little pregnant mama/goddess. It was just very sweet and something that I thought she'd enjoy.

I was thinking about giving my MW one of the 2009 Mothering calendars.

I've gotten gifts as a mw. I really appreciated it, especially when it was heartfelt

I wrote a nice note and gave my midwife a bottle of champagne. It was a complicated pregnancy at times and I was a complicated patient. This was a risk because I wasn't sure if she even drank, but it was very good champagne, and she loved it!

Thanks for all the replies. I especially like the idea of writing a heartfelt card for each of them. I am thinking about getting some seeds, because they both love to garden and it's (sort of) symbolic.

My last appt with my midwife is in 3 weeks. My GOAL was to hand knit her a womb ornament (got the pattern from knitty.com) and to order one of those picture mugs with a picture of her from the birth, with the words "I love my midwife" or something like that.

but like I said, my last appt is 3 weeks away, and I've had a really difficult recovery and haven't even started any of it yet

You could always give her a card now, and the knitted womb (love it!) later. I'm sure she'll understand why it took you a while!!

I got my one midwife a very pretty reusable tote as a present. She loved it and uses it regularly. For the other MWs in the practice I saw throughout my pregnancy, I made a donation in their honor to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, a charity our family supports.
