My OB does not want to induce me (without genuine medical need) prior to 41 weeks (10/30), but she does want me to book a spot on the L&D unit so that it's available. What do you all think? I can book it and then cancel it if I think my body needs more time. Should I just cross that bridge when I come to it? I honestly think I'd "let" myself go to 42 weeks unless the intrauterine environment became unfavorable or it was indicated due to my lupus.

Seems to me that the only reason you'd need a spot "booked" would be for a non-medical reason. IME, when it's an emergency/medical reason they fit you in pretty easily on the L&D floor.

I agree. If you really need to be induced for medical/emergent reasons they will fit you in.

i agree. plus, psychologically, i can tell you that a room booked to meet your baby at 41 plus weeks (or 42 plus weeks) is pretty darn tempting.

I was a scheduled induction with DD and I had to call the L&D in the morning before I left to make sure they weren't full. So, as the PP said, they (obviously) give priority to the true emergencies, so I don't see what the point would be, other than for the convenience of the hospital in knowing how many medical personnel to schedule to work that day, KWIM? If it gives you a sense of comfort, I'd say go ahead- but if it makes you uneasy, like pushing you in a direction you don't want to go, then just wait.

If scheduling would give you the convenience of having your own room or something of the sort, I'd go ahead and schedule. Otherwise, I don't really see a reason to.

Yeah. I'm going to refuse to schedule. I don't want to cause a problem with my OB, so if it seems to be a bid deal to her I guess I won't. There are only private rooms at the hospital I'm birthing at, but they do tend to get full and send women to the "other" hospital (where I work in the ghetto) to have their babies when that unit is full. If I had to birth at "my" hospital I'd be okay with it. It's actually a nice place IMO.
