It was pretty bad...I'm not going to lie. And the fact that I went into labor at home meant it was two hours of labor before I got an epidural (by the time I got to the hospital, and then had to deal with the world's bitchiest nurses...seriously they were BAD! and I was alone in the room b/c my husband was in the waiting room with Nell as I didn' twant her to see me hysterical with pain)....and in that two hours I actually went from 4 to 8 cm...so was in transition....it was really really bad. (My first I only had about 30 minutes of back labor before they got me an epidural)...BUT...I survived! I may not have done it gracefully and without absolutely hyperventilating with the pain. And, I can say I made it through to 8 cm on my own (even though I didn't want to!)
Good luck to you...it would have been infinitely better for me if I'd had someone to put pressure on my lower back during contractions...but even without...I lived. And labor was super short and quick and in the end...I've alreayd started to forget how hard it was.
