flu vaccine for mom-safe for bf baby?

Hi All
My pediatrician suggested that I get a flu vaccine this winter because my newborn is to small to get one. I am against giving babies unneeded vaccines and plan to selectively vaccinate this little one when the time comes. However, if I can prevent him from getting the flu this winter by getting a flu vaccine of my own, I might do it. What I am wondering is will the chemicals and flu virus in the flu vax go through my breastmilk to my babe?

Also, I would love to hear from moms who got the flu vax like my ped is reccommending.

If you get exposed to the flu, your body makes antibodies, those antibodies are passed onto your breastfed baby. If your babe is exclusively breastfed and only getting milk directly from the boob, the protection is maximized. No vaccine necessary in my opinion.

I would not personally consider it. If you're looking at it make SURE that the vax you get is mercury free. Most flu vax still has mercury.

in short, no ... and no.
can't speak directly to "junk" in the flu vaccine passing through to your milk, but i can pretty much guarantee you that it won't give your baby any added protection from the flu. it also won't give YOU any added protection from the flu.

want to protect yourself and your baby from the flu this flu season?
eat super healthy (lots of veggies, as fresh as you can get 'em, no artificial products, lots of water, lots of natural vitamin C), get lots of rest, avoid large crowds, and wash your hands frequently.

I'd also like to add that I have four children aged 8-18, and thankfully no doctor EVER pushed a flu vax on me or them until just recently, when I knew enough to refuse.

I don't see any vax as "needed". And apparently neither does my ped who does not push this or any vax.

You'd do better to keep SA on hand and take at the first sniffle than to get the shot. The SA will also pass through your bm to your babe.

It has petty much been shown that the flu vax does very little good and can do a lot of harm. Don't forget all vaccines are grown on foreign DNA which should never enter our blood.

Your best protection for your baby is to nurse. And if the baby shows any signs of stuffy nose, etc. put breast milk up the nose and take SA as someone already recommended. It goes into the breast milk and is very healting.

Ditto to all that has been shared already. There are NO STUDIES about any of the noxious chemicals in vaccines and breastfeeding NONE, so if your ped says that it is safe, he is making things up, he can't tell you that for sure. I am actually refusing my "mandated" TB test this year at my job because of the toxic chemical phenol in the ppd and the fact that OI am breastfeeding. The package insert says right there there are no known studies about it and breastfeeding. I would skip the useless (and potentially dangerous) flu shot and concentrate on bolsetring your and your LO's immune system.

You can get a Quantiferon Gold TB screen (blood test) instead, there's no injection and it's actually thought to be more accurate than the Mantoux skin test.

every single post marketing study on the flu vaccine has shown that even on good year matches - the flu vaccine does absolutely nothing to lessen hospitalizations and/or deaths for the elderly or young children. look it up. and know that breastfeeding is the absolute best protection you can give - WAY more effective than the worthless flu shot.

I know but the closest lab that does this test is about an hour and a half away. So far my job isn't harassing me about it, but I am prepared to travel there and get the test is it comes to that.
