Don't believe in orgasmic birth?

I never understood it really, I knew it could happen but I figured one needed to be a very 'sexual' person to begin with.

I just had a baby 10 days ago and although I wouldn't define it as orgasmic, I did feel some of those feelings which I had never experienced with my previous two births. Amazingly, some of the contractions felt good and the baby coming out of the birth canal really didn't hurt, it was more of a very 'full' feeling.

I just wanted to share this abbreviated experience so that others who possibly doubt an orgasmic birth for themselves can know that it can happen even for us who don't see ourselves as someone who can experience this during birth.

I was glad I was able to get a peek at these feelings since this was my last baby.

while i wouldn't necessarily say that my dd's birth was orgasmic, i think that delivering her placenta came real close

Congrats on the safe arrival of your newest addition. So glad you had such a great experience. I too have never been able to say I had orgasmic birth. But, I am a quick pusher and that last couple of minutes when I know my baby is about to come out, I do get such a huge, thrilling feeling that counters the crazy pain! I savour the memories of those few moments as nothing else I have done in my life compares. I did not feel it with my first, but have with each other child and it gets better each time! Its a little addictive!!!

I don't know how I feel about it. I've not had one before, but I am SO different this time around I am certainly open to the possibility. I'm not set on any one feeling though, I wouldn't be dissapointed either way. I think it's different for everyone and different for every birth.

I don't care for the ideal of orgasmic birth right now - the fad of trying to achieve that kinda gets to me. it just isn't the same for everyone. To me to overly focus on it takes away from whatever blessing you are meant to get during your birth... if that makes sense. it's kinda like sex- you enjoy sex by letting yourself go in it, just enjoying it. if you focused on a particular outcome as your main focus, as in "THIS is how I want to it feel and if it doesn't it's not worth it" then you're likely not going to be feeling that. the focus would be wrong.

does that make sense?

Yeah! Congrats!

Out of curiosity, how long was your labor? I've read that orgasms are more common with long labors. I guess the oxytocin build up is greater & that's why it's more likely to occur.

My doula experienced an orgasm with her 1st after a very long back labor. She said she'd never even HEARD of the concept of orgasmic birth! It took her by surprise.

I never thought I'd "try" to achieve orgasm. I just thought of it as another way to view birth. Same thing with painless birth. I didn't expect to have that either, it was just great to me to KNOW that some ladies experience this. It IS possible! Birth doesn't have to be a miserable experience (even if it is very painful.)

It's another way to view birth as wonderful & beautiful -- as opposed to the common American view that it is an awful means to an end & we should be grateful that medical technology allows us to escape from it.

I had similar feelings when birthing #2. Personally, for me I think it had to do with the position that I was birthing her in (hands and knees). Though I had contractions most of the day it only hurt for the last hour and a half or so.

my mother speaks of having an orgasam while having me. She also was very suprised and had not ever heard of it happening. She was in labor for quite a while too.

I had ctx on and off for several hours but active labor was only one hour. That one hour wasn't the orgasmic part though.
