Toddler dress question

I have very little sewing experience and I'm making my daughter a dress that is supposed to resemble Wendy from Peter Pan. The pattern calls for bodice lining and slip. First of all, is the "lining" and slip supposed to be cut from the same fabric as the rest of the dress, or does it mean I need some other special fabric?

And second of all, since it's just a Halloween costume, do I need to bother with this lining thing? I envision it's just to make the other side look pretty? Hopefully this is clear, I don't know much of what I'm talking about. Thanks!

The slip you may not need, the bodice lining you might need. Often times linings are used to finish the edges of the neck, so you can't just leave it out. You'll have to read the directions through to find out how the lining is attached.

Usually you use fabric called "lining fabric" (original, huh!) to line, since it's lightweight and slippery. But if you have enough of the outside fabric, you can use that too. The back of your pattern envelope will tell you how much to buy of each type of fabric

Thanks! The dress does have a neck band so I guess that means I can probably do without the bodice lining. Although I'd rather do the bodice lining and skip the neck part because wendy's dress doesn't have that. But I have no idea how to do that! I guess if I skipped it it would just look like a really low-cut nightgown??

I thought Wendy wore a nightgown throughout the whole story? Since Peter Pan came to take them to Never-Never Land after they were ready for bed...?
