D&D geeks tribe! (aka - ANOTHER natural 1???)

I'm getting my character, Emwyn, a halfling Cleric/Sorcerer presiging in Mystic Theurge ready for our game tonight. I've been playing her for over 3 years now, and I love love love her!

I know there are other D&D moms out there - has anyone started playing v4? We have everything for 3.5, so we're sticking with it for now - til we get bored with it.

I'm in a 4th ed game. What I like about 4th ed is that it doesn't require you to be a gaming geek to be effective.

As a magic user type, what you might find interesting is magic missile at will.

I'm all for magic missile, but there are soooooo many other spells that I can do more damage with at this point. (Can anyone say Fireball??)

Last night was a BLAST! Emmy made the killshot on an illithid mind flayer who was opposing her order. Unfortunately the rogue traveling with her party did a coup de grace on him, so we couldn't get more info. Maybe I'll try to Speak with Dead or something.

sapphire, I do think there's a learning curve with 3.5, definitely. I've been playing Emwyn for 3 years now and I STILL find things I've not been doing as well as I could.

Temporarily retired gamer here. Someday there will be time to go back...

Just wanted to bask in the gaming love. :

I've been gaming for years. My DH is in a game that might go to 4th ed but our game will be in 3.5 for a while. Our GM is not good at absorbing new rules.

My DD likes to look at the Monster Manuel with Daddy. I find this terribly cute.

Masel, how cute!!!

sapphire, I OOTS! Do you read regularly?

I told DH that we need enough kids to have a game of our own in the house. Right now, we have friends who come over Weds nights, but that's all we can manage.

I read OOTS daily.

Another thing all of you should appreciate:

Dh GMs at least one game pretty much at all times. Right now he's GMing Shadowrun via email and our every-other-week D&D 4th ed game at home.

He uses his own ideas, pre-made adventures, and online modules that match the sort of thing he wants to develop. For instance, he's planning to run a one-off Shadowrun game tomorrow at the Halloween party and he's doing a Zombie Apocalypse theme and he went and found some pre-made zombie NPCs.

The 4th Ed DMG has a good section on how to DM, it discusses types of players and how to entertain them and keep them from being troublesome. We had fun going through and identifying our styles. It also has a section on pacing your games and such.

Pretty sure that there's a section in the OOTS site about DMing.
