Question about shedding--quick help needed!

I'm a therapist who works with families and LOs and I was in the same room today with a 15 m.o. who was vaxed (6-8 shots, DTaP, HIB, PVC, flu, Hep-B, etc., etc.) about an hour before I saw the family. I was fully vaxed as a kid, but was born in the early 70s, before the schedule was as insane as it is now, and have had no subsequent vaxes.

Neither of my DSs (2.5 yrs and 14.5 mos) have ever been vaxed at all. Should I be worried about shedding? I'm sure I have most likely been exposed to this LO's shedding, but does that mean that I could bring it home to my boys? I forget the timeframe with shedding and I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to reduce the risk to my DSs. I'm sure they have been previously exposed to kids in public who were recently vaxed in the past, but *knowing* this kid was just pumped full of vaxes an hour before I saw him just freaks me out!

since it was *right* before you saw him, I wouldn't worry.

Live vaxes he might have had would be MMR and chickenpox.

Yes the potential live ones they could have gotten are MMR, Varicella, and FluMist (the nasal flu vaccine). I know HepA is on the schedule now but I don't think that one is live.

From what I have read I think shedding from the MMR is rare, you are more likely to catch the flu from the flumist. I could be wrong though.

And as Alegna said, I would think if there was any shedding it would take a little bit of time to propagate, so I doubt anything would happen within a few hours of getting them.

6-8 shots?? Poor kid

I *think* flumist still is only approved for use in kids over 2...

Thanks, alegna & Ophelia. I feel much better. I know--it's horrible that this little guy had all those vaxes at once, much less at all. I'm sure some of them were combo shots, so I don't think there were 6-8 separate injections, but still... This family is heavily involved with CPS (I do not work for CPS), so she feels that she needs to vax, otherwise I'd be schoolin' her about her rights to refuse vaxes.
