Minneapolis Homeschooling

Thread Starter
Hi,

I am relatively new to the twin cities and am considering homeschooling as an option for my 3 kids, 4.5, 3 and 1. We have to make the big Kindy decision this year and I have to admit, I'm not very excited about the ps options. I have been pouring over books and Internet information and homeschooling is becoming more and more appealing everyday.

I would like get more info on what Minneapolis has in terms of hsing: playgroups, resources, meetings, whatever!!

If you have any ideas, please let me know!!

THANKS!

Here are a few things for you to check out

http://www.homeschoolers.org/

The ECHO-MN group can help you find a support group in your area. The HS Adventures site can help you find field trips and fun things to do around the Twin Cities.

MHA is a great place to find info about homeschooling in MN.

Good Luck!

Which part of the Twin Cities do you live in? There are lots of sub-groups already set up on the ECHO Yahoo group. Although I've never been to one, I think ECHO holds meetings for those new to homeschooling at local libraries. That might be a nice way to meet others who are thinking about homeschooling or just getting started.

The Minnesota Homeschool Alliance (MHA) annual conference was just this past weekend (?), but if you have a chance to go next year there is always lots of good information.

If this is your leaning, you can also look into MACHE which is a statewide Christian-based homeschooling group. I think it stands for Minnesota Association of Christian Homeschool Educators. Hope I got that right.

Best of luck to you!

I volunteer with MHA (Minnesota Homeschoolers' Alliance) and keep track of the homeschooling groups in MN for them. Email me (click on my user name "AmyMN" next to my post) and I'll send you the groups in your county/nearby counties.

Also, read anything by John Holt (especially "How Children Learn" and "How Children Fail")

There are tons of homeschoolers in the Twin Cities, secular, Christian and otherwise.

homeschooling in Twin Cities

My kids are 4.5 and 1.5 and we are in a newly-forming ECHO homeschool group in South Minneapolis. Our kids range in age from 6 down to about 18 months. Right now we are just meeting in a church nursery (for winter) where the kids play and the moms talk. Let me know if you would like more specific info.

Also, there is a homeschool preschool that meets on Mondays in Northeast Minneapolis. AND there is a Preschool Adventures group organized through Homeschool Adventures that does field trips almost every Thursday.

There's LOTS to do around here!!

Terri
