vaccine immunity questions

am hoping someone can answer my vaccine question.

I have heard people who are anti vaccine say that vacs don't work. I have a friend who had chicken pox as a child. She has one child who was vaccinated. Her husband & 2 unvaccinated kids got the cp. Her & child with the vac. did not. The vac seems effective in this case. Can anyone explain this to me?

BTW - My 1yr. old has never been vaccinated & my older kids have not had any in the past 2 years.

thanks

Well, now your friend, her DH, and their 2 children have natural, lifetime immunity from CP - the way it's supposed to be. Her other kid? Maybe, maybe not - they're now recommending boosters for CP so they must not have much faith that the vax confers lifelong immunity.

Plus, her kid is going to be at a much higher risk for shingles when he/she gets older & hasn't gotten any of those secondary antibodies from having wild CP.

No two diseases are alike and no two vaccines are either. Some do work for a while, others hardly.

They said the cp vaccine will protect the vaccinee for life. They are now seeing a lot of kids who did get vaccinated, come down with cp in a few years and are recommending boosters.

Also it was supposed to prevent shingles, but we now see shingles in little kids. Shingles was a rare condition in the elderly.

The cp vaccine may work in some way but is it really to our benefit?

Some vaccines don't prevent transmission. Others can cause the illness...

Thanks for the replies already! I used the cp as an example, but I was actuallly wondering about vaccines in general.

My understanding is that vaccines are not 100% effective - some people will get immunity from them but not everyone. Some vaccines are more effective than others.

My 22 year old sister is recovering from chicken pox right now...she had the vaccine when she was younger. thankfully, she had a very mild case.
