Returning to work...

I was wondering if PPD is ever a reason to have pregnancy disability extended. i am supposed to return to work in a week or two, and i just can't imagine pulling myself together by then. My last midwife visit is this sunday, and I was wondering if she could not release me for work because of this. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I would think so. If you are not ready, tell her so. Are you being treated?

I called her tonight to confirm our apt. and she could hear it in my voice. Sigh. i'm going to miss her very very much.

I scored a 69 on the quiz, which isn't too bad, but it's something. I haven't been treated yet, i would like to see if supplements help before i go back on Zoloft, which I was on after my last baby. Zoloft makes my anxiety worse for a while, and i just don't want to go there right now.

I'm pretty certain that you can take advantage of the Family Medical Leave Act. I think by law they have to give you up to three months of unpaid leave without terminating your position. However, you can be demoted....I think. I had to get this for my hubby because I too had a strong reaction to Zoloft and I couldn't even function. He was off over a week and had to take care of our ds.
I am now on Celexa and it also caused some increased anxiety but I only took very small doses...and just gradually decreased it. It took longer to see the benefits but I wasn't unable to care for my family I would take the meds but just do the same thing I did. For Zoloft, I know a lot of mom's on here started at 12.5mg which is super low, half of half the normal starting dose. I think most dr's would think it's too low but their not the ones having the anxiety, ykwim.

If you don't feel ready to go back to work, you have to print out the forms and bring them to your midwife to fill out.

I work for a disability company and if you are getting paid disability benefits you should be able to extend them if you are having ppd symptoms, especially if you are treating w/ a provider. The company is going to want an update of you symptoms, restrictions and how you are treating. I would talk with your midwife about it and call the company on Monday to find out what info you need. Family Medical Leave with cover you for the time off of work providing that you qualify, however it is an unpaid benefit.
