Anyone Looking for a Free Doula in Anchorage?

I hope I'm allowed to post this here. If not, I apologize.

I finished my doula training and I'm just down to doing my 3 freebies to get certified! Yay! If you or someone you know could use a free doula- especially if they don't have a lot of money and are planning a natural birth- please let me know! I'm due at the begining of January, so I'm trying not to get mom's with due dates right around that time.

Who are you certifying with? Good luck.

I'll keep you in mind if I hear of anyone in anchorage looking! maybe mention it to some midwives in the area?

I've told my midwife, but I might try to talk to some other ones too. Good idea.

Subbing. I won't be due in Jan- BUT I am planning a baby (assuming of course that the country/economy does not head more into crap lala land)..

and I am thinking about a doula this go round.

You do know that your certification births do not have to be free right? Just the way you worded it makes me think that you may. It's not really recommended to do them for free. Reduced fee sure, but at least recap your expenses.

JUst an FYI: If they're not free, they can't be advertised on the boards. Sorry!

how long are you doing the freebies for? I am in Anchorage, due in July.... is that too late? I have never used a doula before, but this time I am hoping for a VBAC and maybe doing hypnobabies! I plan to deliver at Regional.

VBACs are awesome! I have had 5 VBACs with my last one at home.

Good Luck Momma!

how did you certify through them? Did you take one of their workshops up here? or is there a way around that?

DONA International requires a hands on training. They are usually held twice a year in Anchorage/Wasilla. Let me know if you are interested. You can go to http://www.dona.org to see if they have the next one scheduled yet.

Oh, I'm interested.

I am training through Childbirth International because they dont have workshops and I wanted to get started right away and not have to wait around. (all online and books) but I am all for going to a workshop. I just did not want to wait.

Looks like March is the soonest one they have listed right now. They might have others that will be listed in the next month or so but probably spring will be your best bet.
