having hysteroscopy on Monday- questions

Hi Everyone,
I have a hysteroscopy scheduled for Monday to remove a small uterine polyp I will be at CD6 on Monday when the surgery occurs. I was pretty happy with the way the timing worked out with my cycle since i scheduled the procedure weeks ago.

My nurse called me today to tell me that I need to start birth control pills on CD3. I think they generally prescribe them for this procedure to make sure your lining is thin so they can easily see what they are trying to remove.

I absolutely hate the idea of taking the BCPs! I might only need to take them for 3 days (until the procedure is over). Or worst case scenario my doctor might want me to continue them for 10 more days after the surgery. The nurse suggested i shouldn't be trying to get pregnant this cycle. I had hoped i could still try this cycle since i normally do not ovulate until CD 18 or so...

Has anyone been through this? I am wondering if i really need the pills, although the nurse insisted i do. My lining should be thin as I will have just ended my AF, right? Thanks for any advice!

I can't speak about the bcp - I've had 2 hysteroscopy's (2 different docs) and they were both done in the first half of my cycle. I wasn't prescribed bcp prior to the procedure.

As for ttc this cycle - I wouldn't. I would give your uterine lining time to heal from the removal of the polyps. After my polyps were removed I waited out the rest of that cycle and the following cycle. I also had additional scar tissue removed so that could account for needing an extra cycle to heal. But I wouldn't want to conceive and risk implantation on a site that didn't have adequate uterine lining if it could be avoided by waiting a cycle to let the uterine lining heal.

LisaG,
Thank you for the firsthand experience and the advice about waiting this cycle out. I understand the reasons to wait. My doctor said she likes 2-3 weeks of healing time in my case. I guess i was hoping 12 +/- days of healing might be enough... It is hard to accept that the best thing for my body is to sit on the sidelines this cycle :

Also, next cycle I am moving onto an IUI attempt (have not decided medicated or not medicated yet). So i guess i have been telling myself that this is DH and my last chance to have a go at conceiving on our own before moving on to the next steps.

Anyway, thanks again

swissmiss - I think it's not so much the time factor for healing (although that's a part) but I think the important piece is having a period so you have the lining shed and rebuild process.

Good luck with things, I completely understand the agony of waiting
