apparently coconut oil's no good. are all the natural oils? to be frank, in addition to the chem-free factor i also want it to be, well, slightly tasty.

thanks, y'all.

glycerin is the only thing I can think of that might satisfy what you're looking for, though I've never tasted it...

although, there are polyurethane condoms so with those you can go to oils, iirc. they do take some getting used to though.

egg whites would not be good if the condom broke, as the sperm can easily travel though the pure protein. At that, it is the suggested lubricant when TTC, just an FYI!

Thanks for the above link. Very informative!

I was sold on glycerin until I read this section:
Glycerin is related to the sugar glucose. If you taste some, you will see that glycerin lubes are sweet. Like sugar, glycerin is a good energy source and sometimes serves as a nutrient for microbes. Women may find that glycerin lubes foster yeast infections. If you or your lover suffers from frequent vaginal infections, look for glycerin-free water-based lubes. There are several other molecules that can hold water together as glycerin does, without feeding populations of vaginal bacteria and fungi.

I was prone to yeast infections once upon a time and have no desire to ever repeat that cycle.

Sooo... what is the scoop on aloe vera???

Maybe take a look at drugstore.com in their "personal lubricant" category, or a specific "sex products" type website, and see if any of the lubricants available for sale are free from nasty ingredients. There must be at least one company that makes an all-natural personal lube.

Aloe vera tastes pretty bitter IME.

How do you know what makes a lubricant condom friendly?

For just lubricant, I've used skin salve type stuff...all natural... I now make skin stuff myself after trying several kinds...could this be another avenue for it?

Latex is an oil-based product, and anything with oil in it can dissolve the latex and weaken the condom. A "condom friendly" lubricant is something without oil in it.

Okay, thanks for that explaination. The stuff I make and have used has oil in them.... I may have to experiment and see what I can come up with....

So what is a god condom if you want to use coconut oil along with?
Only polyurethane condoms are safe with oils. They feel different though and are a bit more expensive than latex ones.
There are also lambskin condoms- it seems logical that those should be safe with oil-based lubricants, but I haven't seen any research saying anything one way or the other.

Lambskin condoms are even more expensive than polyurethane.

I love this. It's pricey, but worth it! A little goes a long way. Glycerine products=instant yeast infection for me.
