itchy

maybe tmi... anyone else have an itchy perineum? I didn't tear at all, but I swelled from here to timbuktu in every inch of the nether region. my perineum is STILL swollen three weeks after birth, and it's become annoyingly itchy lately as the swelling goes down. frozen pads soaked with witch hazel help a lot, and keeping things consistently clean and rinsed with warm water. but it's awkward

anyone else? I've never heard of this complaint before...

Hmm - do you think it is itchy because it is healing, or because of yeast?

You could try bathing with some goldenseal, and/or you could put some lavender e.o. in your underwear.

My swelling went away in few days, however i did have tht itchy feeling after the swelling went away. I thought it was my cloth mama pads causing the itching and irritation. But it do go away. I took several baths with comfrey leaves and it helped alot. Hope you get to feeling better.

I was. I asked my mom about it and she told me it meant my stitches were healing. The itchiness is gone now, and i'm fully healed as well!

mine is from healing. i got stitches.

I tore and mine was from the healing. I had the same kind of itching after my apendectomy. I just wanted to shred my abdomen, the doctor said the itching meant it was healing. So about 3 days pp when I started itching I kinda figured that was what was going on. My MW confirmed.

great info! so glad the itching is actually a good sign! sure is annoying though. my swelling went down a ton more today -- not sure why it is taking so long to get back to normal, but I'm happy to be able to start recognizing my perineum as part of my body again.
