Here's a link to a wonderful essay written by a woman in 2003. It's titiled "Why Empowered Women Choose Not to Circumcise." It helps explain why the circumcision of our nations precisious infant boys still persists. An increase in more women becoming empowered will definitely help with decreasing the circumcision rates.

Excellent, excellent, excellent. I like all of it, but especially this part:

In the face of professionals making opposite claims one can either study everything there is to be studied, or resort to common sense: If 85% of the world has natural genitals, and they don’t end up needing modification, perhaps what’s natural is safe. After all, women have many more folds of skin “down there” and we seem to do OK. Even in the face of an infection or other problems, the solution is NEVER amputation. There isn’t after all, a single body part that is free from an occasional problem. We don’t cut off our toes to prevent getting an ingrown toenail!

Instead of rebutting all the possible medical excuses that have been tossed out, common sense should be the tool used to evalute. What a novel idea!

Really thorough and even-keeled essay. I have bookmarked it.

That is excellent and SO common sense! thanks!! I bookmarked it and will print it out for my cousin in case I need it. I sent her a few printouts and will be seeing her in a few weeks and ask her what she thinks. She is due in Jan. and I hope with all my heart that her and her BF 'get it' about circ. I will be devastated if they do circ.
