wanted: online sewing community ?

Hi there,
I know THIS is an online sewing community but I'm looking for something more like Ravelry is for knitting. A place where you can find patterns, look at others' projects, talk to other people and look for different ideas. I started knitting a few months ago and I love Ravelry!:

I don't sew (yet). I'm thinking of getting a machine but to justify buying it to myself I would like lots of ideas of things I could make. It would help if I could look for stuff on a place like Ravelry...

Anyone know of such a place for sewing???

TIA

I don't knit, so I don't know what Ravelry is like (for comparison), but http://www.burdastyle.com/ has patterns, projects, chat and ideas.

I've ever been to Ravelry so I can't say but as the pp said, Bursdastyle is cool and so is Sewing Mamas

Definitely check out sewingmamas or sewforum. They both are more chatty and cover a wider range of stuff more along the lines of ravelry. Patternreview is good for techniques, but there's very little off topic discussion.

Burdastyle, sewingmamas and sew forum all have loads of free patterns and tuts.

has some free patterns. There are tutes out there on blogs once you start looking too. Here's one http://indietutes.blogspot.com/

Start here for bag making tutes then make your eyes bleed on craftster.org

Free sewing patterns are more often presented in photos or in terms of 'measure this, then do that and sew it up like this'
