Seasonal allergy and sinus pressure relief methods???

I am getting desperate and about to find the Sudafed. ACK! Please help...

This is my first time in this forum and I searched back 4 or so pages and didn't see anything on seasonal allergies. If I need to post elsewhere, please point me in the right direction.

I have seasonal allergies in the Fall and live in San Diego. I was told by a doctor several years ago that my allergy is to eucalyptus trees and that they do something in the Fall that creates my misery (and for many others). It has never shown up on allergy tests, but he was an intern with a personal interest in this topic.

Aside from avoiding groves of eucalyptus trees this time of the year, which I already do (and is quite challenging here), what else can I do to avoid the awful allergy symptoms?

For the last two weeks, I have been getting a horrendous headache every evening. My sinuses feel awful. I've been using peppermint eo to help clear my head and it was working up until today. (I've also been doing steamy showers, yoga, meditation, rubbing pressure points on my face and head, etc.) This morning, I got a jab in the gumline from a piece of cereal. My gum tissues are very sensitive (not always) and this set off a chain reaction of pain in various teeth. The pain moved around a bit and has settled in one of my teeth. Oh, it is INTENSE. In the last hour or so, the pain has spread across my entire upper jaw...more intense on ends. My head feels like it is going to explode from all the pressure...on the top, behind my eyes, and next to my nose on both sides.

Please, please share some ways to provide relief without Sudafed! I will use it if I have to, but it brings on a whole new set of issues for me... jittery, super thirsty followed by very frequent potty breaks and always full-feeling bladder, HYPER followed by crashing HARD, and so on... all things I'd rather avoid. Oh, but my head is soooo uncomfortable. On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being no pain and 10 being super intense, I'd rank it up around an 8. It was a 7 earlier.

Thank you for reading and any advice!

DP and I started using a nettle/quercetin blend earlier this year for seasonal allergies (we found it in capsules at our HFS.) The nettles are supposed to be good for allergies, and the quercetin for inflammation. I think you're supposed to start using it before the allergy season starts, but we didn't and it still seemed to help. DP was having crazy sneeze attacks and keeping everyone up all night with his snoring, and I noticed that both decreased within a few days of starting the nettle.

Nettles are good..tinture is best or tea or capsules. Steaming helps. As a last resort Sudafed or Zyrtec D work great for me. Also what I have found that works wonders is a super-charged versoin of the neti pot (neti pot never really helped me)...http://www.hydromedonline.com/hp.htm...FQkiagodvGNiKw
I also read you can buy a water pik with sinus attachment for cheaper. If I use it a few times a day it works wonders...but even with that, going outside for any extended amount of time still messes with me.

Quercetin and Vitamin C (both are natural anti-inflamatories and anti-oxidants) combination works for me. I have seasonal allergies and I used to get horrible sinus headaches when the weather would change, but I don't anymore. I take it year round.

There's also a vegetarian formula:

Oh- I forgot to mention. A little lemon oil dabbed in the nostrils reduces inflammation and pressure.

Have you tried a Neti-Pot to clear your sinuses? I love mine and it's supposed to help flush the allergens out of your sinuses when used on a regular basis. When I was pregnant and had a horrible sinus infection, it was the only thing that brought me relief and finally cleared it up.

Thanks so much!

I do have a neti pot and I really liked it at first. Then, I kept getting sinus infections about a week into using it each time. Got any ideas on this???

I will look for nettles/quercetin/vitamin C next time I am at the health food store. Actually, I have various vit C right now and have been drinking/eating foods high in C, so I will combine it with either of the other two.

Thanks again!!! I have another wicked sinus headache tonight... every bloody night... ugh... sigh

Oh, the lemon oil...what kind specifically? I have fresh lemons from the neighbors (organic, off the tree any time I want) and I think I have lemon extract (or is it orange extract? I'll look). I don't recall any lemon EO in my stash, but I have lavender and tea tree and peppermint and others.

Ouch- definitely not lemon extract. I think the alcohol in that would HURT!!! Just a lemon EO is what DP used. I'm sure other EO's might work too- but the lemon we were told helps to constrict the blood vessels in your nose.

Yea, I thought about the extract. LOL No thanks.

I was given freshly picked ripe lemons from the neighbors and they smell sooo good! I don't have lemon EO. I feel good today, thus far, so I think I am walking near enough to some eucalyptus trees on my daily walks to DD's school. I'll be on the lookout on Monday and see how I can avoid them. We don't have any in our immediate area near our home, thank goodness. I might get to the health food store tomorrow, but definitely by Tuesday for the nettles. I've been eating lots of fresh produce for Vitamin C and I feel good afterwards each time.

We stopped by our local HFS today and I spoke with the knowledgeable guy in charge of the supplement dept. I ended up with nettles (liquid to be placed under the tongue), neti pot wash (zinc and some other stuff), and Reacta-c. I'm already taking dong quai and alpha lipoic acid for other issues, which I conveyed to him. He also suggested the quercetin and something else (I forget now) along with eating plenty of garlic (which we do already, but DH bought more and promised to cook with it even more this week). I couldn't buy all the supplements, so I went with the ones I did based on my overall health issues.

I started the nettles treatment as soon as we got home. I took the reacta-c with my other two supplements after dinner. I used my neti pot tonight after the whole family watched the how-to video (again for me, but new to them) and DH assisted me in the correct angles, etc, but I forgot all about the neti wash! Oh well, there is always tomorrow.

I still have a headache tonight, but it is different and less severe in a way. The pressure isn't ALL over my head...just the lower 2/3rds. My nasal passages feel downright terrific and I can breathe soooo deeply and clearly, which is really, really nice. I didn't have nasal congestion per se, but my whole head was just so clogged up and icky. Little chunks are clear tonight and I am grateful!

Thanks for all the advice! I appreciate it so much! :
