My baby girl is here!!!
Maya Ruby
Born Oct. 15 at 8:11pm
7lbs, 9oz, 20.5in
We had a perfect natural hospital delivery. She was born 2.5 hours after my water broke, after about an hour of intense labor & 10 minutes of pushing. We are home, nursing great, and in love!!! I'll post the birth story later.

Around 2:30am on October 15th, I woke up to dd1 crying in her room. I went in there and got her right back to sleep, so I went back to bed. About 15 minutes later, I had a pretty good contraction. I had several of these, and started to think I was in labor, but by 5am or so they were gone and I fell back asleep. When I woke up about an hour later, I had bloody show and a back ache, but no contractions. So I went ahead and went to school, thinking that I didn’t want to sit around all day and wait for labor to start (or not to start).
As the day progressed, I had mild contractions off and on. They never got closer than 12 minutes apart, and were mostly 20-30 minutes apart or longer. My lower back was really sore though, and I was nauseous, and was starting to get frustrated wondering whether or not these were going to regulate. I taught all day, and even went to a meeting after work. At about 4pm or so, I went to the bathroom and completely lost my mucous plug. I thought that was a pretty good sign along with everything else that had been happening.
I called my midwife’s office to see what to do, thinking maybe I could be checked before going home (I was 3-4 cm the previous afternoon) but she was busy so I talked to a nurse. The nurse told me to go to the hospital, which really upset me because I knew they’d send me home. I got off the phone with her, called MIL and asked her to pick up Maggie, bawling the whole time. At this point I knew I was close to having this baby since I was getting so crazy emotional. I called my midwife’s office back and asked for her to call me when she was available, and she got right on the phone with me. She told me to instead of going to the hospital, go home and get on my hands and knees and rock for awhile- she thought maybe labor wasn’t starting due to the baby's position. So I went to Sonic, got a sweet tea,
and headed home. I called dhto tell him to meet me there and we'd see what happened.
I got home around 5:15, got a few things together, and then got onto the floor and rocked. I leaned on my exercise ball and let my back relax. After doing that for about 10 minutes, I got up and got an apple, sat on my exercise ball at the computer and went to check my email. About this time, dh got home and sat and talked to me for about 10-15 minutes. I got up to go throw my apple away, and when I stood, my water broke all over me. I was soooo relieved to know things were finally going to happen! We went ahead and got some everything together and headed to the hospital birthing center at about 6pm, since I had a pretty quick labor last time and knew I was already dilated quite a bit.
We got to the hospital and checked in 6:15ish. At this time my contractions were 3-4 minutes apart, but not very intense yet. My midwife came and checked me at a little before 7pm and I was 5cm dilated. At this point, my contractions really picked up. They were suddenly 1-2 minutes apart, and very intense. I kept waiting for them to fill up the Jacuzzi tub so that I could labor in there, but it took them forever. I sat on the birthing ball some, but was more comfortable standing and leaning on something during contractions. I was really nauseous during all of the intense labor, but never got sick. Finally about 7:55pm, I was able to get in the water. I knew at this point I was close, since I was really starting to get panicky with contractions and feeling like I couldn’t do it anymore.
The water felt soooo good, and I had immediate relief. I also immediately felt like I needed to push. I stayed in the tub for about 2 contractions while I waited for my midwife to come and check me. I got out of the tub when she got there, and I had a horrible contraction on the way to the bed with a ton of pressure. I got into the bed, and she checked me and said I was ready to push! I started pushing a few minutes after 8pm, and Miss Maya was born at 8:11pm. Nobody was telling me when to push or counting, I just pushed when it felt right. There were just a few of us in the room- dh and me, the midwife, and a couple nurses, and it was nice and dark and quiet. I never had so much as saline put into my IV lock, even after the birth. I couldn’t have asked for a more peaceful, natural birth.
Maya had her cord wrapped around her neck and a ton of mucous in her chest/throat, and it took her a few minutes to get her good and pink. But she nursed right away and has been doing great ever since. I didn’t need any stitches, and am feeling fantastic. I honestly can’t believe I had a baby and feel this good!
So after spending all day in labor limbo, once she decided it was time, she came fast and furious. I was shocked at how fast it all happened!
